I don't see it happening unless some major rule changes are made to the game. As great as Kobe's performance was, he was still a good 19 points away from even tying Wilt's record.

I agree, unless a major rule is changed it won't be broken.
In this day and the state of the game, if a player scores 100 points I would actually be against that player. It would blatantly be a show of greed and disrespect for his teammates. Sure it's a huge personal win, but if you're scoring 100 in a game, your not helping your team, only helping yourself and the coach would have to be fine with letting you take that many shots. Also, like mentioned earlier, the level of play now is much higher than in Wilt's days as far as overall NBA player ability. A superstar should only have to put up 25-40 pts to help his team win these days. If you're scoring 100, something is wrong on so many levels haha.

are you against kobe???? because if you take a good look at his 81 point game then you would realize that he could have scored 115 points that night..here is the break down.
66 shots -- 46 field goal attempts and 20 free throw attempts. Of those FGAs, 28 went in (60.9%), including going 7 for 13 in 3-pointers and 18 of 20 free throws.....add the missed points and its possible that he could have done it that night. If it can happen then it eventually will.

I broke it in NBA2k9 with Marco Belinelli ball hogging and throwing up threes scored like 119 points with 5 minute quarters

But highly doubt this will happen no one is ever gonna have that many free throw attempts and shot attempts that wilt had during hundred point game. If it did happen would have to be like a quadruple overtime or something crazy like that.

It'll be broken some day. Some people have danced around the "as long as there are no major rule changes" point, but thats exactly why. There will be major rule changes over the next 60 years. Not all at once, of course, but subtle changes over time. Think about the changes over the last 55 years: the shot clock, widening the lane (again and again), goaltending, the three point line, etc. Other such changes will take place in the future.
Teams have averaged 120+ points per game. Other teams in other times have averaged less than 80. It used to be you could clothesline someone for coming down the lane. There were some recent rules changes to allow more space for penetrating guards.
The game already seems to be getting smaller in the frontcourt. More and more power forwards and even centers are quick and agile and dont really bang down low. What if the next generation or the one after that has their own version of Dwight Howard, only even bigger and with an offensive game? If Shaq could hit free throws at a better rate, we may have already seen the record broken.

No, because if I was the teammate of the scorer I'd get pretty bored watching him try to do 1v5 on offense then I have to play defense.

There is no way that is going to happen unless one player in the team gets all the shots

Great opinions, guys! Thanks for all the input!
I say no as well...only 2 people in the history of the NBA have scored more than 78 points - Wilt with 100 and Kobe with 81 - I would honestly be surprised if anyone was able to reach 80 again. I mean, sure, it could happen, but there is a MUCH better likelihood that it does not happen, IMHO. So that's why my vote is no.
