if they did need it for the set why didn't they just search ebay? This doesn't add up, there are enough on there at reasonable prices

NOT SO SURE EVERYBODY SHARES YOUR OPINION. THERES SOME CRAZY BIDS ON HIGHEND BASE STAR CARDS:
ADRIAN PETERSON 08 EXQUISITE BASE CARD:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ADRIAN-PETERSON-...3A1%7C294%3A50
AND ANOTHER SELLING FOR 70ISH WITH DAYS LEFT
DONOVAN MCNABB 08 EXQUISITE BASE CARD:
http://cgi.ebay.com/DONOVAN-MCNABB-2...3A1%7C294%3A50
BUT THEN YOU HAVE FAVRE, BRADY, LT, ETC. SELLING ROUND 20-30 BUCKS SO THERE SURELY IS NO METHOD TO THE MADNESS

That is a terrible strategy! Why not just put in as much as your willing to pay?

If I put in 10 grand for a card then personally, If I win at that price thats what I'll pay. I've not looked up the 'value' or book of a card in over 5 years. I bid what I think will win it. Just sometimes you get screwed a bit more than you think its worth, but still if you REALLY WANT IT you'll pay whatever it takes. I paid 650 for a simple button card of Griffey Jr. because it was 'jsy numbered'. The more frustraiting part is if the bidder doesn't PAY...that PEEVES ME! :)

Yeah I was also going to mention that 08 Exquisite Adrian Peterson card.
I remember a couple months ago they were selling for $40-70 price range. Then a month ago at like $125-150.... I still need this bloody card and I keep holding off thinking its going to level off. Today they are closing at over $200! (and you just posted that $250 BIN - Jesus, this is ridiculous!)
I've never seen madness like this for a second year card of superstar in along time.

Right but in this scenario the guy didn't actually anticipate paying 50+ dollars.
