BREAKING NEWS: Bears' Hester will not return kickoffs
ESPN just broke the news that the Bears return specialist Devin Hester will not return kickoffs this season, but he will continue to return punts. Unsure what the reasoning is, but this seems pretty stupid to me...

Reasoning I would think is that he wants to be a good WR and now that they have a good QB to get the ball to him I think he will develop into a pretty darn good WR. His route running skills improved alot last year. What do the Bears need most? WR's lol Cutler will make him good just as he did with Royal and B Marsh. The Bears must have found someone to return kicks that they feel will do the job, I'm sure they wouldnt make that move if not.

Man they're really serious about making Hester a real WR! Jeez, let him do what he does best!

Steelers doing the same thing with starting Holmes last year. A few less times they get whacked and they can make the call on punts on returning them or not. Most kickoffs you do not have a choice. Also without the wedge this year(new rule) kickoff returners are going to get mauled/killed/destroyed! Furthermore with him being the playmaker for the offense and Cutler on board pretty sure they want to keep him fresh as much as they can.
without the wedge won't happen

Yeah I am sure it is just to protect him. And if you look at his stats last year, besides the big play ability, he is really pretty average at returning kicks, and has some pretty bad judgement too haha.

Which is weird becuase he ran for over 3 times the yardage for Kickoff Returns over Punts last year. Maybe they plan on scoring a lot and want to protect him

I believe Tim Brown did a lot of returning early in his career but then went to just PR and concentrating on WR.

I think he could make a decent WR.

They started leaning toward this last year. Daniel Manning returned a few last year and took a couple to the house. At times he looked better than Hester himself.

How can you look better than Hester at returning punts/kickoffs? lol
