Rangers Sign Prospal
It appears as though Vaclav Prospal's time on the unemployment line was a brief one as the New York Post is reporting the veteran forward has signed with the New York Rangers.
According to the Post, the deal is for one-season and is worth $1.1 million.
The 34-year old Czech Republic native became a free agent earlier in the summer when the Tampa Bay Lightning bought out the final three years of a four-year, $14 million contract. He had 19 goals and 26 assists in 82 games for the Bolts last season.
The move will reunite Prospal with John Tortorella who Prospal coached Prospal in two separate stints with Tampa Bay.

For once Sather makes a decent signing. I wonder what this means for Dubinsky as the Rangers are really pushing their luck with the cap.

Prospal for less than 2 M is a great signing in my opinion.

The Rangers have made some decent signings this year, maybe they could be a contender for the entire season this year

To me , Prospal is the only good signature Sather made. Gaborik could be a good one IF he stays healthy , which won't probably happens. Higgins and Kotalik are second-line players at best and those 3 are replacing Gomez and Zherdev. To top it all, they have big trouble signing Dubinsky.

Yea Prospal IMO was a great signing from them. Trading Gomez was also huge. But the Gomez trade went from a great move to lousy one the second all that cap space and then some was thrown at Gaborik. Even when healthy, Gaborik is a 40-45 goal, 80-85 point player, which does not merit that type of money, especially considering the health issue. Keep in mind that Antropov, Zherdev, Naslund, Morris, Mara, and Gomez are gone, and Gaborik, Kotalik, Higgins, and Prospal are their replacements. And if Dubinksy resigns, then they will also have a 40 point player as their first line center.

you make a point about Gaborik, but, the Rangers have a really good track record in recent seasons with keeping their players healthy. We had no significant injuries until someone was cheap shotted in their second to last game in the play offs.

I honestly would like too see a healthy Gaborik as he is one of the more exciting guys to watch in the league. While he is still young, this whole move kind of reminds me a bit of the Pavel Bure situation when he was brought in. Expectations were set pretty high, and the guy ended up being a major disappointment. It is also by the looks of it is an "eggs in one basket" situation. Let's face it, without Gaborik, the Rangers are a likely lottery team.
