Yea i know but the rumor is they want to improve the bottom line cuz ur lower down teams like the Bengals,Browns, Lions,Raiders etc are having tickets sales going down some ie not getting the face value for em, but as far as I know right now its just a rumor that started when the NFL network come around and resurfaces on the varies sports talk shows a few times a year, which may never happen and yet it may sometime down the line cuz I think the network stations contracts are up in like 2012 or something, but they also said a move like this would be held to a owners vote and we all now how congress is and they would probley step in

Again a misinformed statement. The collective bargaining agreement take care of that. This is not going ot happen. Call my buddy Mike Tirico from ESPN. He and I were neighbors when we both lived in Syracuse and he says he has never heard of what you are talking about

Ask Tirico to do the right thing and leave the announcers box and stick to golf, at least Gruden's there this year to mix it up a bit. The past few years have been down right horrendous for the tv broadcasts, although I think this year might be better.

This could make financial sense, just based on broadcasting revenues. Sort of like how MMA makes more money doing PPV than it could licensing out to one of the networks.
However, I think in the end that the NFL would end up losing a bunch of secondary revenue that they get from licensing, sponsorships, etc. because the audience for the NFL would become far less broad. Essentially, they'd be squeezing more money out of their most diehard fans, but no money out of the casual fan instead of a little money from everyone.

I don't think it would ever happen, I don't understand how it would make more financial sense? With the current TV deals, they have a steady guaranteed flow of income throughout the lengnth of the contract regardless of how poor or great the economy is. Who wouldn't want that? Then they will negotiate a new one with the same structure. How can the NFL know what they will get in PPV, you can guess but PPV isn't a sure thing, TV contracts are.
The NFL doesn't have to do anything except play football games, the networks handle everything and write the checks to the NFL. The owners don't even want extra staff even though they can afford it, why would they want to shell out extra $$ when they don't have to?
