This looks to be the precursor for ESPN jumping back into the hockey market

it's EXTREMELY late for ESPN to get back in for this 09-10 season...

For this season it wont happen because of the contracts with Versus/NBC but after 2011 I think there is nothing settled yet. I can't see how the league would stay with Versus without it being broadcast on a large scale. ESPN has also been supposedly increasing their hockey coverage, which is an about face from the attempted murder they tried after the lockout; basically ignoring it, not updating their webpages, and skipping highlights. Heck a few years ago the only coverage they'd give hockey was in the last 10 minutes of Sportscenter and usually only during the playoffs. Arena football got more coverage.

Just out of curiosity, is it at all possible to get any TSN coverage in the States? What about Hockey Night In Canada on Saturdays? I know it was available in Detroit back in the day....
The only reason I ask is because it's usually pretty good coverage. At least we're done with the days of Fox's glow puck!Last edited by ravens_creed; 08-24-2009 at 11:16 PM.

Living in Buffalo, most non-Satellite subscribers get CBC, so HNIC has been a part of my life since childhood. However, TSN is not, but we do have the NHL Network and they are very good about broadcasting TSN games in the US.

I watch Hockey night in Canada via the computer (ustream). I do not have t.v. as I canceled it as I can get the hockey fix via the above source. Being in Ky there nothing regional so just what on the versus, oln, or whoever carries it at the time.

so with all these stupid black out rules... if a Rangers game is on Versus will I still be able to watch it on MSG? I think a few times last year the game was not shown on MSG because Versus had. Would that mean I couldn't watch these games?

I was in Milwaukee a couple of years ago... last weekend of the regular season, and my Leafs-fan-friends wanted to find a bar that would have the Leafs game on. I think it was against Montreal.... Leafs had to win to make the playoffs, but then the Islanders won the next day and the Leafs got bounced anyway (something like that??)
Anyway... we called around, and found a bar that would have the HNIC feed for us. We were the only 3 watching it (NCAA Frozen Four was on in the other room, and a lot of people were watching that). So at the very least you could get the CBC feed in some states then. No idea if it was satalite, cable, or what.

HNIC is now on NHL Network every Saturday night. Before you had to have Center Ice to see it. You can only see TSN through those ways as well. If you live in Buffalo, Detroit, Seattle, and other border cities you can see CBC on basic cable...or the rabbit ears, which is how I watched Canadian TV.Last edited by senrab; 08-26-2009 at 04:00 PM.
