Too much for a guys whos career numbers are kind of weak (9.6 ppg/5.8 apg/4.4 rpg) He needs to prove he can be consistant over a couple of seasons before signing for the kind of cash. Indeed he has the potential to be a great asset to the celtics he also has an even bigger potential to be a flash in the pan or become a floater

this quote made me laugh as well
"This is a really fair contract. We wanted him to be paid like one of the top five point guards around"
Really is he a top 5 point guard? Like I said the guy has proise to be good, if not great but to say he is comparitable to a top 5 after a few good games is a joke..

Rondo has had a few seasons with good numbers - 0708 and 0809, and he's starting this year off with even better than either of those seasons. 0607 was his rookie year. I think that shows he's a good player.
Dan - are you talking about over their entire careers, or just this season/preseason? It seems to me that you are talking over their entire careers, and if that's the case, then we may as well throw Magic and Stockton on that list as well...the other thing is that alot of those situations are different than the one Rondo is in. So, are you telling me that CP3 or Deron would still be averaging 23/5/13 in Boston?

If it's all guaranteed, I think it's way too much for a semi-star point guard. I think there should have been at least a team option or something after the 3rd year, just to insure that he continues to play hard and get better, even after when the big three retire.
Also, if the Celtics would have waited until the summer I think they could have gotten him for a lot less since I doubt any other team would offer him THAT much, especially with the free agent class we have coming up.

Ya, but I doubt he'd be averaging 23, more like 15 or so.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Where is my 11 million? At least I can make a jumper!

I'm talking about last season....
Then I disagree...Rondo was equal to a few of those guys...he's definitely at least equal to the 5th best in the league...
CP3 could do it, mostly because he can shoot...
No way...CP3 wouldn't put up 23 PPG on the Celtics...he'd have 12-14 PPG with Allen, Pierce and KG taking the majority of the scoring load...wow, that's not too far off of Rondo's numbers!
