    lebron changing his number

i didnt see a thread about this and thought id start it up. lebron says noone whould wear number 23 in honor of michael jordan and hes changing it to number 6. bill russels old number, which is kind of hipocritical because bill russell is arguable also the best player. what do you guys think?

I think there had been minor discussions about this in the official Lebron thread, but a thread is good too...more opinions this way!

I like the idea of retiring #23, but if that is done, #6 should also be retired, as well as #33, and probably a few others...

the reason he chose 6 is because it is his Team USA number....

Yes Lebron is an idiot and thinks too highly of himself. Seems like it's just a marketing ploy to sell more jerseys (e.g. Kobe Bryant 8 to 24)

dunno i saw the interview, and he seem to think more highly of Jordan than himself and said that he was not worthy to wear the #23, so to me he sounded pretty humble

And the reason he chose 6 initially was because one of his kids was born in June (6th month) and another was born on the 6th of October...and, he didn't say this, but Jordan won 6 rings...

The part of the interview where you see Lebron thinks highly of himself is not the "I'm not worthy to wear #23 like Jordan" part, but rather the part where he saids "if I'm not worthy to wear #23, then no one else in the league is worthy also" <- or something to that effect.

Still seems like a Marketing ploy to sell jersey's more than anything else to me.

Lebron can do whatever he wants but...
From what I can tell he and a few others are trying to make this a 'league wide' thing.
Phil Jackson has even jumped on the band-wagon...who's next?
Hopefully this is an isolated incident here with Lebron and Mike's old coach.

GriffeyJr.FAN3 brought up Bill Russell and that's a great point.
Where's the cut off? Do you go as far as to honor the 'Top 50' and remove 50 jersey #'s from the pool?

About 10 other people wear 23 this year. Some have had that # for years.
I say if you don't play in Chicago, play on!!!
