    What's next for the hobby?

I've been collect hockey cards for the last 20 years or so. I have seen things transform drastically from the early 90s boom to today. Companies have been incorporating new cards every few years starting with regular insert cards then seeing the introduction of autographed and jersey piece cards, to game used equipment and other paraphernalia. Over the last few years I have noticed a plateau of sorts of the transformation of trading cards. What do you think is next for the hobby?

I think they will try to get jerseys from particular games i.e playoffs, a hat trick game, 1000th game, stanly cup finals. Stuff like that. I think autos may get more personal, you'd get a redemption and you could ask them to sign "to my faviorite card collector..."

I just opened a blaster from Target and Sean Avery was in it. He was in a bad mood because of the cramped space... ;) He's available for trade if anyone wants him.

My idea can only be done with Heroes and Prospects. They have to do it like they did with 2001-02 and 2002-03 BAP Memorabilia. The cards are based upon the draft, except that they do the previous draft. Let me explain a little better. So it would be an autograph subset. The spot that the player got drafted is how many auto cards of his that are made. So for last years draft Tavares would be /1, Hedman /2, Duchene /3. This is how the set would look:(only do the first round)

***denotes that the player has signed for ITG before or have autos in 2009-10 Heroes and Prospects

    ***John Tavares /1
    ***Victor Hedman /2
    ***Matt Duchene /3
    ***Evander Kane /4
    ***Brayden Schenn /5
    ***Oliver Ekman-Larsson /6
    ***Nazem Kadri /7
    ***Scott Glennie /8
    ***Jared Cowen /9
    Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson /10
    ***Ryan Ellis /11
    ***Calvin de Haan /12
    ***Zach Kassian /13
    ***Dmitri Kulikov /14
    ***Peter Holland /15
    Nick Leddy /16
    David Runblad /17
    Louis Leblanc /18
    Chris Kreider /19
    ***Jacob Josefson /20
    John Moore /21
    Jordan Schroeder /22
    Tim Erixon /23
    Marcus Johansson /24
    ***Jordan Caron /25
    Kyle Palmieri /26
    ***Phillipe Paradis /27
    Dylan Olsen /28
    ***Carter Ashton /29
    ***Simon Despres /30

seeing how most of the players have signed already it would not be to hard(in theory) to get autos from the other players. it would only add 465 total autos to the set. it think it would add a whole lot of value to the whole set because their will be a lot of cards that player collectors would chase. plus it is also an idea that could be done year after year and no players would ever repeat in the set.

so i just did the math from last years heroes and prospects and their were 11,825 memorabilia cards. just say that they are about two per box now so their were approx 5,913 boxes made. now i do know that the odds were just a tad under two game used per box and i will round that number up to 6,000 boxes made. so the cases are 24 boxes per and that works out to 250 cases made. now my numbers are just approximates but i am thinking they are somewhat reasonable. so my idea has the total odds of approx this:

autos fall one every 12.9 boxes.

with 24 boxes per case you should hit two of these auto but some may only have one.

so what do you guys think of my idea?

I know it'd NEVER happen, but how about Stanley Cup cards? Like a card with a piece of the Cup in it.

    That is an offensive thought.

They do have to pull off plates every few years..... becuase they've run out of room, and need new areas to ingrave the names of new winners.

I'd be surprised if the NHL / HHOF ever gave up the old plates and let them do it..... but it wouldn't shock me.

For the record - I'd be totally against it.

Agree that it'll never happen. But if it did, I would want the piece with Selanne's name.
