I use those heavy manila envelopes as well, with the cardboard and SASE inside and it either costs me 1.39 or 1.56 depending on where it goes. I put on 4 forever stamps on the envelope and SASE if I don't have the time to go to the post office.
When I go to USPS to mail a 9x12 envelope (with another inside for SASE), with 1-8X10 & 1 cardboard (same size), it cost me a minimum of $1.56. They consider the package rigid (especially if you write DO NOT BEND). When I did the old 3X.44 stamp routine, the envelope was returned due to insufficient postage. I use the thick manila 9X12 envelopes because they hold up real well under the normal USPS thrashing...

I sent out 12 8x10s yesterday and each one had a different postage based on the zipcode. Just us USPS.com
