I'm not sure we could find a better SF in free agency though. Even if we could, we'd more than likely have to overpay, and we don't have that much cap room do we? I like the trade. Decent wing player and a first round pick for J.J. is not bad at all.

The CBA is going to jack up free agency anyway - no team can bank on that. Simply put:

1 - Hickson thinks he is worth way more $$ then he is. Odds are the Cavs weren't going to bring him back as a free agent anyway with the drafting of Thompson. Why pay 9 million a year when you have a rookie that does the same thing?

2 - The 1st becomes unprotected in 2014 - if you look at the West the Kings are going to have to really step up to make the playoffs before then

3 - Casspi is a long athletic guy that can fill a hole until we get a better player in future drafts

4 - Otis Thorpe anyone? It's the same type of trade - and Otis Thorpe trade allowed the Pistons to have the #2 pick in the 03 draft even after they made the finals (forget who they drafted - that's not the point - the point is they got the #2 pick)

No it won't - the Kings aren't making the playoffs next year.

TWITTER - the blessing and the curse (every expert spoke too soon) - here are the official details of the pick:

"The first round pick acquired from Sacramento is lottery-protected in 2012 (1-14). The pick is then protected in 2013 (1-13), 2014 (1-12) and 2015-2017 (1-10). If the pick is not conveyed by 2017, then Sacramento will convey its own 2017 second round draft pick to the Cavaliers protected (56-60)"

I'd bet money the Cavs don't get this pick until at least 2014.

according to cavs.com (probably a little more reliable on CAVS then twitter) its the 2012 draft.

You just have no clue how a protected pick works do you? It's ONLY in the 2012 pick if it's outside the lottery - so the Kings have to make the playoffs.

    They certainly aren't.

The Cavs website says exactly what I'm saying - so the website and myself are both right. You aren't even close.

It clearly states Top 14 protected which is the lottery.
