They should put all the Original Six teams in one Divsion, then the rest anywhere, I don't really care, the old teams are alot more fun to watch, they could go back to the old way of taking trains, buses etc, real hockey, not this stuff there showing now, all expansion teams.

There has been nothing done to quell this rivalry due to re-allingment. The reason that the Wings/Divelanche rivalry is gone is due to the Dives playing like plumbers.
When the Red Wings destroyed Roy 7-0 in the Playoffs years ago, the Dives were finished forever and so was the rivalry.

The Avs will come back at some point.
More rivalries are killed/put into a coma through one team going through a long period with no success, like Colorado.
The old rivalries will always stand. Toronto/Montreal lasted through TO being put in the West. Detroit/Toronto games are always good games, even if there are few of them.
Rivalries can also get tiresome. Vancouver/Calgary games used to be amazing in the days of Linden, Bure, Fleury, Vernon and McLean. Now they suck and I have to watch, like, 8 a year. I'd rather see a New York, Montreal or Washington more often during the season, so that the season standings actually mean something. Then go to a divisional playoff and so on. If Toronto and Montreal can't meet in the finals, boo-freaking-hoo. Calgary and Vancouver can't play for the cup...oh, but they aren't original 6. Nevermind, continue on.

K your 6 "real teams" can go establish their own league the other 24 of us will continue to run our league then
If we want to live like that, the you should live as a real 18th century human
Sell your car, and transport to and from work to and from grocery stores in a horse carriage
There are 6 teams(southern united states) that need to be relocated, but that doesn't mean it is real hockey or not fun to watch
Ya let's use buses, the the regular season would take 5 years to complete
That's my rant

This is everyone's answer to rivalries. This is as succinctly as it can be put, and solves all rivalry issues. No more needs to be said on the matter.
No matter how the NHL is re-aligned, there will be travel issues.
Personally, I think splitting the league vertically four ways is the answer to travel issues specifically; however, it would offset the number of teams per conference.
That being said, there is no prefect answer. The cities the teams call home will not change. Swap Winnipeg for either Detroit or Columbus...flip a coin.

Barrie?
There is no chance in hell an NHL team is coming to Barrie.
Sincerely,

Was it Barrie?
I can't remember but mckenzie had a feature on it on tsn
Not soon, but a second team in Ontario within 10 years is a realistic option

Hamilton or Markham are the two most talked-about destinations.
Either one wouldn't surprise me, to be honest.
(And hey, I'd love to see Barrie snag a team, but they can't even get the Memorial Cup!

How come Wisconsin never had a team I always wondered? One of the few northern states where plenty of hockey is watched/played/followed at lower levels but never a pro? Hell even Conn. had the Hartford Whalers for years till they went to Carolina.
