The only time you will get tape on a toploader from me is if the card is extremely thick (like over 180 pt.) and I don't have any new toploaders so I have to use a used one with tape on it. I send most of my cards out in brand new toploaders/holders, with decoys/extra base as protection in a team bag and I tape the bag shut. I hate it when I buy a card and have to change everything from the soft sleeve to the toploader because it's used, written on, stickers on it, tape, or it's scratched up. I'm glad the card arrived safely but people need to stop pinching pennies and send stuff in nice, fresh supplies.

That's why I put the open end of the penny sleeve in the toploader first, so that the card doesn't slide out and get tape on it; only the penny sleeve.

But problem there is, when the card is in the mail system getting bumped around the card can slip out the penny sleeve even the slightest and the bottom of the card is hitting directly off the plastic, one bad bump on an angle could possibly damage a corner.

As long as its in a toploader its fine with me. I have received cards (on eBay, not from SCF) that weren't in a toploader so even if there is tape/scratches/etc. its fine with me as long as the card is safe. I reuse these toploaders to trade and put cards in new toploaders to display my cards. That seems to be the way most people do it, based on the toploaders I receive lol.

just use painter's tape. doesn't leave sticky residue.

    This times 1000
My packages might show up and have blue tape all over the toploaders. But it comes off, really easily. And you can reuse everything cept the tape itself

Use team bags to avoid this problem! I dislike sticky toploaders as well.

I use team bags and since all my top loader are new when I put the card in, then the other person does not have to trought it away. When I do revceive and most have tape on I always change it and simply trought the old taped one away. Since I store the toploader in boxes, they stick to the next top loader and that I hate.

To me unless they mail like I do I simply take out the card and repackage it to scan and clssify in a box. When I look at how much I was spending and what it cost to get proper protection, I figure, why try to save them when it stick to the next one.

I don't hold it to other trader but I hate to receive a high end tick card with tape on the end because the residu can end up on the card edge and then try to have this card graded...

I think this is where it start to not be acceptable when a card is a candidate to be graded (high end) and a tick card. At least inverse the penny sleeve like one said he does so the glue do not end up on the card.

Team bags is not costly and does a better job at reusing top loader. But to me, what count is that the card arrive undamaged in the end. Not that it be brand new stuff like I mail mine.

So just remember tick card can get glue on the side and this is where a good trader should be more carefull if the card is of value. Inverse the penny sleeve for these at minimum if you are to use tape. Some do bend the edge of the top loader with the tape, so the tick card can't reach the tape and that can work too!

This boggles my mind!!!! Team bags, plastic cases are all readily available so why anyone would bother to use tape is beyond me unless they are sending a huge lot.

Tape is getting used to make sure the card doesn't slide out. I agree, team bags will do the same thing..... but not everyone has those.

I don't keep the cards in the taped top loaders, I'll swap them with a new (clean) one.

Not a big deal though, IMO. I expect the seller to get the card to me, and in good condition. If they need to put tape on the top loader, so be it. I'll worry about how I store / display the card myself.

I feel you on this one. Some people just don't care and do not take pride on what they do.

I find the worst offenders are ebay sellers. They have small margins and just use whatever is around, but I definitely will "spare" the few pennies and use a team bag. Most of us go to the LCS or order supplies online, so unless you are doing crazy amounts of trades/sales, 100 team bags should last a few months if not half the year.

But painter's/masking tape is definitely preferred over any other tape.
