eBay should switch to a model where anything over $100 on a BIN / BO costs a percentage of the asking price - and lower the final value fees accordingly. Then they wouldn't have their site polluted with listings like this one.

It's his card, and he's welcome to keep it out there at whatever price he wants to see what kind of offers he gets.
The card is numbered to /10, and it could very well be the nicest patch of the 10. In either case, it is worth as much as he can get for it, and if that is the price he is looking for, he has a right to hold out for it if that is what he wants. He might not EVER get it, but what does it hurt for him to have it listed?
A gretzky RC books at $900, but some of the higher graded ones go for tens of thousands (up to $55,000 I think).
I mean, there and Thousands of gretzky rc's graded at 6 or 7, and even probably a few hundred graded at 8 (not sure, I don't have the stats). Yet a gretzky graded at 9 or 9.5 goes up in price EXPONENTIALLY, why? Because although there are more out there, the one with the highest grade is sells for 60 times what the lesser ones sell for.
Maybe this seller is looking at it in the same way. There are only 10 of those cards printed, and if his has the best patch, maybe the right collector will make him a very good offer.
If I pulled that card, I would consider it probably the best card I would ever have pulled, so I would be keeping it in my PC until I could get EXACTLY the price I want for it, maybe not 50 grand, but it would definitely not kill me to hold onto it rather than give it up for less than I think it to be worth.
Just my 2 cents.
As far as ebay goes, I think that sellers should be able to list at whatever they want, and if you don't think it's a good deal, just don't bid on it.

I agree with your point.
I will clarify mine. If this seller thinks that this card is worth anything close to $50k - good luck to him. It's his card, and he should absolutly have the right to ask whatever he wants for it.
I'll say the same thing about the guy who was selling a sealed case of 1991 Topps Stadium Club for $20k last week (well, trying to sell. He didn't actually get any buyers).
More and more though, it seems people list this cards / items / whatever - asking for some insane price..... not becuase they think they can get it, but they're hoping for the high price to attract interest.
I still think eBay should change its priceing model though. For high priced BIN / BO - take a higher listing fee, and lower the final value fee. Should the item not sell - offer free re-listing (which I believe they do anyway). It would get rid of listings where the seller is asking something rediculous (like this one)

Not necessarily, you'd be surprised how many low ball offers come in on ebay.

If he's going to be ridiculed for anything, it should be for using the word "authentify" in his description.
