    No, USPS turns it over to Canada Post. He's screwing with you. I normally don't condone negatives when you receive your item unscathed, but in this case let him have it.

    Exactly what I was going to say - it goes from postal service to postal service between countries, not from postal service to a private carrier that charges the hefty brokerage fee.

    I think the duty is your responsibility, and you seem fine with that. But given that he offered free shipping via USPS, then went the route of using UPS, I believe he should reimburse you for those brokerage fees. He may not have been aware that they would be incurred, but that's not your fault.

    If he offers to cover the brokerage fee, I'd be nice on the feedback. If not, I would have no issue leaving a negative. Took way too long, he changed the method of delivery to one that cost you more, and he's trying to sell you a story with the USPS/UPS explanation.

    The difference USPS does not charge a brokerage fee where as ups does. Canada post does not charge a brokerage fee but FedEx or purulator will. I would have preferred to have paid him the 50 bucks up front for a overnight courier at least I would have had it in a couple of days not 4 weeks. I kid of course.

    UPS Have their own In-Bond Customs warehouses in several locations in Canada, They deal with their own shipments, not USPS or Canada Post ones.

    Each carrier has In-Bond facilities in all major Canadian cities.

    This is false. Canada post does charge a brokerage fee. They charge a flat fee of 5$.

    Only if they ding you with taxes too though. The $5 is the cost of them slapping the amount owing paperwork to your package.

    Being also a baseball collector, I have had this happen a few times. It's now ibecome increasingly difficult to even find a seller who will ship to Canada given the number of times they are being scammed by Canadian buyers who 'don't receive their cards". So, I rarely find a seller who doesn't demand tracking via UPS or USPS ($35). I've tried refusing UPS shipped cards twice - the first time the seller took the card back and didn't resend knowing I had no repercussion. Second time UPS hounded me for weeks saying I still owed them the brokerage fees even though I refused the card.

    So, when it comes to customs fees, it's not the sellers fault. It is my responsiblity to check each auction and BE SURE that if I do indeed purchase an item from the US (or any other country for that matter) that the shipping method is cost efficient and not going to incur brokerage and excess customs fees that I'm not willing to accept.

    Even with this, I get hit once in a while with an auction I forgot to check (had to pay $35 shipping and brokerage fees last month for a $150 card that I didn't fully read the description). So, when that happens I just chalk it up to the cost of collecting.

    Bottom line is, if the seller wasn't upfront or honest about the shipping method then I would complain to them and consider negative feedback. IF they were upfront then it's up to the buyer to know what the ramifications are for shipping across our border with different shipping methods.

    As an aside, I've had the best luck with USPS Priority - I've yet to have a duty or customs charge on any card sent this way.

    In my case his listing says only USPS yet it got delivered by UPS. Seller says that is not his fault as USPS must have given it to Ups. From what I can ascertain this is an impossibility. He offered free shipping by USPS which would have cost him about $12 to Canada with tracking. It looks like he chose UPS because it is cheaper for the shipper and it has point to point tracking. By cutting his cost and thinking he got better security on the delivery he his me with a brokerage charge of 30% of the value of the card. This did not include the duties on top of that which I am happy to pay. Had his listing said he was using ups I would not have bid on his item. I think he deserves negative feedback as his listing was inaccurate and it ended up costing me a pretty penny which I will never see again.
