I was a construction consultant then switched careers to banking. The pay is a lot less to start so I haven't been buying a lot lately.

Im the Banquet Captain at the YVR Marriott .... wage isnt the best, but as most people in the food industry will tell you, its all about the tips.
Busted 1 tin of The Cup in my life, and 0 Dominion ..... with the amount of $$$ that goes towards cards, I could be busting more .... but ive trained myself to go after the singles I like rather than gambling on wax. I used to bust multiple various boxes a week, but ive found that watching breaks here ... and seeing all the garbage people pull ..... it really throws me off wax
Its easy when you look at it this way .....
Option 1 - Buy a box of SPGU at $200ish ( I think ) .... get some $1 jerseys, a no name sticker auto and some rookies I may never hear of again
Option 2 - Buy this ----> http://www.ebay.com/itm/RASK-UD-CUP-07-08-172-GOLD-Rainbow-Autographed-Patch-RC-AUTO-22-40-/200747551142?pt=US_Hockey_Trading_Cards&hash=item2 ebd7c89a6
Annnnnnnnd, have money left over to buy something else sweet!
I live with my girlfriend, we have 2 cats and 1 dog .... we also split everything in the household 50/50 so my monthly expenses arnt too high. She works as a Veterinary Assistant, which really helps with the pets!

I'm an Accountant in the Oil & Gas Industry, my fiancé also works in the same industry and we have no kids, yet. I have never opened a box of The Cup or Dominion and I doubt I ever will, I can't fathom paying that kind of money for only a few cards. Maybe it's the accountant in me. I mainly stick to low end set building, OPC, Score, BTP, S1 & S2.

It's interesting to see the balance of buying singles/boxes/nice boxes.
Sometimes its hard to tell if you should save up for a high quality box, or spend cash on a couple low end ones.

That's interesting to hear. If I did this for a living, I'm thinking for sure I would bust The Cup at some point.
I talk to the owner at the LCS here in Vancouver and says he cannot survive if he sold cards only. I guess the markets are a lot bigger in Ontario.

I'm an Investment Advisor here in Central Ontario and haven't busted a box in years. Similar to the comments above, I go after the aftermarket singles of the players/ sets I collect. The math doesn't work for me on box busting, plus with 3 kids, I have less time than I'd like to devote towards the hobby (and not alot of space for extra singles too!). I'm sure once my 2 year old son gets a bit bigger, though, we'll pick some lower end boxes to open.

I have to say, since getting back into this hobby last July that SPGU is my least favorite product in terms of price/value and design.
Of course, the super hits are nice, but even the GU and base design are very ugly imo. The Significance autos are okay, but the rest are very meh!
