Round 3 : Official Series Discussion Thread NY Rangers vs.NJ Devils

Wow, 3-3. The Rangers and Devils are starting to look like the Penguins and Flyers.

]Since you're American [/B]I can see how you wouldn't know who Bob McCown is but he has a sports talk show that airs on Sportsnet on TV and the Fan590 on the radio. Seems to think that hard hitting; tight checking; shot blocking; great goaltending; low scoring; hockey is boring. More than just him though. I have been hearing a lot of complaining about boring hockey when the score is 2-1, 1-0, 2-0, etc. That just isn't always the case. Sure I do like seeing goals being scored and the Philly vs Pittsburgh series was super exciting with the back and forth goal scoring but a high scoring game is hated by coaches as it means too many odd man rushes, turnovers, poor defense, and bad goaltending.

I am a Canadian, always have been, always will be. I'm on an extended leave of absence at the moment.

Nice to see the Devil's win that game. They were jerked around by the officials, especially on the non-call where Zubrus took a stick in the chops.

If you're not familiar with McCown, it's becuase you're in the USA, and don't have Rogers Sportsnet.

He's been doing an afternoon radio show on Toronto based FAN 590 for as long as I can recall (has to be more than 10 years) and has been pretty prominant in Canadian Sports Media since the early 80s (did sports for Global TV way back in the day, I think he was one of the origionals when Toronto got an all sports radio station... 590.... in the 90s).

Hockey News has ranked him in their "100 people of power and influence" magazine (somewhere in the 85-100 range) for the last 3 or 4 years now.

Not trying to plus his opinions, just wanted to mention that he is a very well known member of the sports media in Canada, well respected, and gets great ratings. Bettman will no longer go on his show becuase he won't play nice, lol.

I've been away from Canada since 1998, but if he is a guy that puts the squeeze on Gary, then more power to him.

Fans require answers and should not have to put up with Bettma's Lip Service.

If the Devils do not win this game, I think the momentum will really shift. The series is patterning out to the 2001 Stanley Cup Finals the Devils had with the Avalanche for the first five games. Devils lead 3-2 into Game 6, and then lost the last two.
Avs - Games 1, 3, 6, 7
Devils - Games 2, 4, 5

Rangers - Games 1, 3
Devils - Games 2, 4, 5

The Rangers have already played two Game 7's vs the Devils one. Each team has a few players each that have a previous Cup ring. Devils have Brodeur, Elias, and Sykora while Richards and Fedotenko for the Rangers.

Congrats to the Devils on beating my beloved Rangers. I will have even more reason to attend Devs vs Rags games next season (or whenever the impending lockout ends) and help serenade Marty (or his replacement, perhaps?)
