really? You think so huh lol.. there was no such thing as "legal immigration" until the mid 20th century so please elaborate...

They came through Ellis Island. They were deemed healthy and not a danger to become a ward of the state, so they were allowed to stay and became naturalized citizens.

A progressive tax code and a "pay as you go" style of growth... IE if you want to build a multi billion dollar interstate highway system.. you create tolls to pay for the road buildings... that's how 20th century worked.. and worked well. Then came nixon.. and worse reagan. Sadly not enough time has passed for people to get that FDR, Eisenhower, Truman, Kennedy, Johnson had the right idea.. you grow with growth, not contraction.

We have a progressive tax code now. Almost half of the people that file, pay no income tax. I'd have no problem going back to Clinton era tax rates as long as we went back to Clinton era spending to balance it out.

I guess you're one of the people that makes this sign so darn funny.

And to address your point that there are more racist republicans than democrats: what is your definition of racism? I've had it argued to me that to be 'racist' you have to be benefiting or made more powerful by existing power structures, and therefore, only Caucasians can be racist. In other words, minorities can't be racist because they're not in power. Any racially fueled actions or statements they take or make are simply rebellion against racism against them. I personally thought it was a load of phewey and was disappointed I was paying to sit in a college class and have that preached at me, but, if you subscribe to that, I can see your point. Because statistically, minorities typically align with the left, if they can't be 'racist', you could logically argue there are more racist republicans.

They used that very same arguement in the Supreme Court this week, so it is a widely held liberal viewpoint.

Ellis Island was not a legal form of immigration lol.. this is what I am talking about knowing history. There were no "papers" that were used there.. people literally just showed up, and if they seemed healthy, we let them in. That was what our country was back then.. we accepted people no matter what race, color, or creed they belonged to. Ellis Island was simply the place that the government picked to keep it all organized. Your ancestors came here what would today be called "illegally" and EXACTLY what republicans rail against today.

Reverend Wright is a racist... Pat Robertson is a racist... the tea party idiots who hold up signs of Obama as a witch doctor and wave the confederate flag are racists... hating someone because of the color of their skin, religion, or lifestyle is a racist and/or bigot. The FAR majority of these people live in the right end of the political pool.

Lol, if all the racists are on the right, then all of the bigots are on the left per your definition.....

No we have a tax code that has so many loop holes that GE paid exactly ZERO dollars in tax during the 2011 fiscal year. The top 2% grows at such a large rate that their income has grown more than 3000% in adjusted income vs. less than 4% for the middle class. To republicans.. this is a good thing.
