UD Class all the way... NOT
So I bought a box of UD at the expo to get the Priority signing.
When I got home I noticed the the hit of the box (Huberdeau YG) had some serious damage.

Bottom Edge. The tear goes right through

Top back crease

I sent this to UD
I opened a box of UD1 at the Expo on Saturday. I didn't sort out my stuff until Sunday morning at home (Ottawa area. About 4 hrs away so couldn't go back).
When I was scanning the cards from my break from the wrapper redemption I notice my Huberdeau had some major damage on it.
As I put all the cards in a card box at the show, I don't have the wrappers or the box to send in for a replacement.
I don't recall what both I got them at but I got a Christian Thomas Priority Signings (65/75) for the break.
I have attached some pictures of the card and can send you more if needed.
Thanks in advance
Chris Jones
And I got this back
Hi Chris,
Thanks for the email and sorry about your damaged cards. We do have to have both the UPC and receipt to replace any damaged cards.

If you have your receipt from the purchase and not the UPC, we will be able to honor a 1 time courtesy replacement for your card. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to let us know.
Thank you,
Panini it is next year

So nice to see things haven't changed any since a boring story about a 2002/03 UD Foundations Patrick Roy jersey card numbered 33/50 (33!) with a dinged corner.
At least with yours it's easily and immediately replaceable. How........utterly galling.

What gets me is what do they think I did to it? I creased it and tore it so I could spend money and return it to them to get it back??? WHAT???

I asked this on their facebook page
So if you get a damaged card at the Expo (When doing the box break for the redemption) what do you do? You have to open them there and turn in the packs.
If you plan ahead you take a card box so you have someplace to put them to keep them safe. When you do this do you carry around the empty box? Don't be silly, you toss it.
Then you get home (4 hrs away from the show) and when you look at the cards and you find damage what do you do?
I know I will email them and see what they can do for a customer who spent his hard earned money on their product. What do they say??? Tuff luck buddy. You need the receipt (the one you get at the show you have to turn in to get your redemption) and the UPC... Guess I should keep my garbage
I wonder if it will be there in the morningLast edited by hossa18sens; 11-15-2013 at 01:04 AM.

My guess is that they have this policy in place so that one doesn't buy a damaged card at an accordingly low price and then go to UD for a shiny new replacement, or try to take something that was damaged in the mail and use UD to replace it in lieu of filing an insurance claim (both are pretty weak, I know, but I'll bet that's why they require it). However, they should always be willing to do a one-time courtesy replacement for you without either piece if there is no history of it in your file.

Maybe try contacting Chris Carlin directly. If you can reach him, he should be understanding since he would recognize they keep the boxes as people break the packs for the Priority Signings.

I'm sorry to hear this. Terrible customer service drives me nuts. Do you really need the UPC and receipt from that specific box? I was planning on buying a box of UDS1 within the month, if I sent you the UPC and receipt would you be able to use that? Maybe use a different email this time so they can't call you out on throwing the real one out?

Upper Deck obviously does this for a reason just like Gallinator said. It's just like returning something to a store.

I understand why they do it and you are probably right. I just don't know how I could have done it differently other than keep my box. I guess that would have worked in this case but only this time.
There was 50+ Diamond dealers at the show and I would bet non of them gave out a receipt with the boxes (other than the form they fill out that you have to turn in for the redemption)
I sent him a message on Facebook. We will see what he says

I agree. I want them to tell me how I could have done it differently. Basically if you get a box at a show you are out of luck as I have never received a receipt from a dealer at a show
