YG's are a staple. To me, Young Guns and SPA are the only 2 rookies you really need. Better than spending $800 on a The Cup rookie of a player who may be a dud.

If prices are finally going down that tells me that I have been right all along. The only thing that is discouraging, is the Retail Price per Box.
Gouging manufacturers, and gouging middle men, and retail sellers. I wish collectors would stick up for each other instead of sticking-up for Upper Deck.

I think that the biggest problem is that it is too good of a rookie class. Most years their are just a select lets say top five rookies. This years their are about ten top end rookies. The more good rookies the more that the money is spread out. Let me word it another way. How many $0.99 Young Guns do you get in a box? A lot less than they usual year.
That plus the second year rookies are not off to the greatest starts. Huberdeau has 9 points in 19 games. Yakupov has 4 points in 17 games. Those two are top end rookies who are not having a great second year. (Yes I do know Huberdeau is almost half point per game) Sophomore slumps will drop prices very quickly.

Beckett.com has prices up for series 1...and the BV certainly reflects the low selling cards of today rather than a few weeks back...
Mackinnon $80
Yak, hertl, gally, only $40
Jones $25
And the list goes lower and lower with some commons being as low as $4.
I'm sure I saw sales of Reilly, huberdeau, and Hamilton we'll above the $12 to $15 range but that's as high as it goes for BV. This should slow sales down in my opinion...

Is this not actually a good thing? The Beckett is a price guide. A price guide is supposed to list the high and low price that a card sells for. I find Beckett lists way to many cards at too high of a BV compared to what the card actually sells for. How often do you see a card with a BV of $80 sell for $30. I am very happy with the Yakupov, Hertl and Galchenyuk BVs at $40 when they sell for $30.
***By the way just so that you do not confuse us Habs fans. Gally is actually Gallagher. Chucky is Galchenyuk. Gallagher does not have a Young Gun in Series One so I knew who you were talking about.

I agree that it would be nice for Beckett to have a more accurate representation of a current market value on cards but that's not the case so what happen now when it isn't consistent? It needs to either be all over priced or all accurate to current market...not a mix. I'll trade my $40bv bs jersey card from ten years ago all day for a hertl young gun and sell it...make three times the money I would selling the jersey card...
People need to be aware of this and not rely so heavily on Beckett to make deals.

I've noticed in past years that Beckett tends to list the BVs on Young Guns for about what they sell for in the first week. The problem is they don't adjust the prices very quickly when the prices drop after the initial buys and more hit the market. They just stay at the same level until it's overwhelming obvious it's dropped and then they drop the price to something that still doesn't closely reflect the current price.
And that's why Beckett is irrevelant, it is more an indicator of what the first and, by extension, the most in-demand card of the print run sold for.

Maybe because the same type of people who bought your Nuge for $90, only to see it nose dive
to half value don't want to get burned again and have figured it out finally! Where else, until now, could someone buy Brand New retail product plus taxes, and resell for a profit? ( if you of one, lmk! lol )
The influx of one player having 10 or so rc's, just from Prizm, and low #'d RC's that have a chance to hold value are also a contributor. Beckett is now irrelevant and the party is simply over for flipper's. JMHO...so no one call me a xxxxx....lol

Maybe there's no correlation but me and my friend looked at Galchenyuk YG's sales and they were selling for 40-50 each. Now Beckett released the value of the YG's, and the Galchenyuk books for 40BV. Right after that, they dropped in sales, like 25-30$. Can that be related?
If Beckett booked the card at 60 like they should've IMO, maybe it would sell for more ? Now people see that it books for 40$ so they want to pay less for it.
That could be an explanation.
