This is scary!
How is it, that one of the best cards in the entire print run of the highest end hockey product doesn't come close to cover the cost of a case? This is scary and worrisome.

Bet it would have more than doubled the price if there was no reserve

I guess I am in the minority when I believe that no one hit should cover the cost of an entire case. The combinations of cards inside, sure, but seriously, expecting one card to cover the cost of a case seems kind of much (especially an expensive case like the cup)

If he had been patient and put it with a BIN OBO at like 3-4 grand, he would've gotten more.

Heh. It looks like he took your advice..........
There's only a handful of people who are going to be going for this card, it's only worth as much as they'll be willing to pay. I've had to pass on more than a few cards from my burning-hunk-of-love PC player because I just couldn't justify the cost, and he sure ain't no Gretzky........

I don't know if it would have or not but I do know that reserves destroy the bids on your card. It was bad a decade ago when you had a reserve and it has only gotten worse over the years. People avoid them like the plague now.Selling all my cards here updated as of May------------> Hidden Content

I never understood a reserve. Why not just start the bidding at the minimum price you will accept for it? I NEVER bid on auctions with a reserve.

That's a bit harsh statement...but sadly I agree him!
1/1 Tags from The Cup aren't the prettiest cards exactly IMO.
Gretzky retired for 14 years ago but he gets more card on a single season than many other active players even some current active stars!
I think that more and more are getting tired of his cards.
So why must every Gretzky card be sellingat $3000-$5000 only becuase he's just Gretzky? Just check at Orr's autograph which has been dropping in prices a lot at lately compared with for 5 years ago. I think that UD should cut with their over-usago of Gretzky, Roy, Orr and some other retired players otherwise we'll soon see a Gretzky 1/1 for $100-$300 if they continues to release +100-250 new cards every season with those players!

Agreed also.. Everyone overpays for shields and 1/1s..just cuz Ud makes them rare..they're usually not even ThAT nice..it's just the fact that oohhh I own a 1/1 now that excites people and "I need to get every single card possible so I look like a hardcore collector"..a shield might look cool at first but why pay $600 for a 1/1000th of a jersey when you can own an actual entire jersey for the same price..
there are way better looking cards than a shield or a tag usually IMO
