Are the Future Watch Auto patches from a photo shoot, or are they game-used?

The card back will read something like this. Congratulations you have received an authentic piece of jersey possibly looked at by Nathan Mackinnon, this jersey was potentially viewed in disgust as Nathan quickly walked by to relieve his potty emergency at Wal-Mart in Cherry Hills Village Colorado. Thanks you as we continue to get you as close to china replica jerseys NHL rookies may have brushed in passing while slumming with common fans.

UD hater. You know they have the best designs and cards. No airbrushed uniforms and their cards hold the most value. Hate all you want but you know the truth that is why you hate on them

sorry i may have overreacted a little. I just feel that UD has game used cards but it is hard to have game used all the time. They do make nice event used cards too.

Thanks for the information on FWA patches folks.

Given this, I do not get the fascination with them. They never appealed to me, because I suspected (and you folks confirmed for me) that the patch was not game-used.

For me, there are three strikes against those cards:

    1. They are not rookie cards

    2. They do not contain game-used material

    3. They are a parallel of the Future Watch Auto set

The third fact is the most important one. I abhor parallels. The most they will ever be for me is trade bait.

Then again, I am not a collector of stuff like this generally. There was a year or two where I liked The Cup, but I gave my head a shake and stopped being foolish. Asking prices and values on rookies from The Cup can be outrageous, especially for players like Ovechkin, Price, Toews etc.

That's why I stick with a mid-range product like SP Authentic and ignore all parallels.

Dont forget the player collectors! Lets say you do have the budget to collect someone like MacKinnon ....... but not everything. The SPA FW Auto Patch /100 is a very nice rookie year auto patch .... that doesnt cost near as much as the Cup /99. Its hard signed, so that knocks out Hot Prospects ...... and lets not forget that SPA is easily a top 3 set every year. If its an SPA staple ( FW Au RCs, FW Auto Patches, Immortal Inks, SOTTs, Marks Of Distinction ........ can go on and on ) then it will be very popular!

Lol very nice. I think we can all agree both companies create some very nice cards, some sets better than others, but regardless nice cards all around. The thing that bothers me is that both UD and Panini use Event Used memorabilia that allow them to pump out more and more rookie patches while conveniently avoiding the term "event-used" in their pre-release catalogs. Is it really that difficult to purchase a rookie's Game Used jersey throughout the year? Especially by the time the end of the year high-end products come out you'd kind of be hoping for actual game used pieces..

Also with a product like The Cup (a rookie heavy product) would use a significantly cheaper "event used" jersey compared to an actual "game used" jersey yet the product has a huge mark up because it is labeled high end. Don't get me wrong, knowing the veteran and retired pieces are actually authentic game used pieces is great, but if 1 or 2 of your 3 memorabilia hits are rookie event used pieces it just makes the high price tag seem even more unrealistic than it already is.

    I agree.

I'm not saying they aren't popular; I'm saying they don't appeal to me personally. To each their own.

I have been purely a rookie card collector since I started. The volume of autographed patch cards available these days is immense. Because of this - no matter what set - autographed patch cards are uninteresting to me.

So what if a card has a five-color patch? BIG WHOOP. It's just a piece of fabric. For example, the fact that a Sidney Crosby Emblems Of Endorsement has an asking price of $1,200 or more on the secondary market absolutely floors me. For that price, you can buy an actual Crosby game-worn jersey and send it to Sidney to sign it.

I was never a fan of cutting a jersey into pieces to put in cards in the first place. I have always felt that it was disrespectful, especially in the case of hall of famers who have passed on, and a waste of a jersey.
