That's not a Wayne Gretzky autograph, that was me when I was drunk signing Gretzky helmets in the early 80's.

Thought I would get some input from all of you. A potential bidder contacted me on ebay asking if I accept other forms of payment besides paypal. The person has +1,500 positive feedback (100%), so if anything I trust this person than some others. Also the card he is interested in is under $20.
So I am asking, do you accept other forms of payment, and how does that work when they pay? Do I have to change any settings?

Ask him what form that he wants. My guess would be cash through the mail. I have sold cards before with buyers asking me if I accept that form of payment. If that is the case tell him upfront that you will only ship the card once you get the cash though. That way you should not get dinged on slow shipping times.

I figured Id post this up, just to see if anybody recognizes this seller and may have a little feedback. The thread is so big that It's might even go unnoticed, but we shall give it a try. And maybe get an opinion on what I should do.
Seller: matthewstevens43
item:JOE SAKIC SPA DUAL SIGN OF THE TIMES AUTO TEAM CANADA
I bid and won the card in auction june 20th and paid the same day. Shipping was 13US for express shipping in Canada, and therefore will require tracking. It was In my opinion a steal of a price, a 200++BV card of a HOF.
I msged him after 2 weeks politely asking for an update, as I haven't received a shipping date. I do realize the 2 weeks is a little early, but I was just going to inquire if it was shipped or at least an approx. when he can ship the card. I never received a response, and I sent another request on an update maybe 4 days later, trying to get some feedback (I haven't made any rude or accusations in my msgs). I haven't had any responses to date. He now has a negative feedback from another purchase on the same date for a similar card (stamkos) basically stating the same situation I'm in.
From a consistent seller, I find this strange. Even tho, I am sure he may be upset for how low the card sold for. Maybe something in the Home life came up, maybe holidays that wasn't planned for noted.
So if anybody is familiar with the seller, gimme a shout. And if anybody has an opinion on what I should do, whether wait another week or two or start a case with ebay for a possible refund ( which I haven't done or know how to do yet :( )

You have lots of time if I'm not mistaken to open a case so if you really want the card give it a few weeks and if still nothing open a case. I think you get 45 days. I could be wrong but it tells you on there what the last day is.

I wouldn't have a problem doing it, assuming it's cash (or money order??) through the mail. Cheque / Money Order used to be a common way to pay for eBay.
So long as he's planning to mail you the cash, then you mail him the card. I would not "send at same time" on eBay under any circumstances.

If you got a good deal, try and be optimistic... hold out. If you get to the 40 day mark, open a case and get your money back.

I always give sellers the benefit of the doubt and knowing that I have 45 days to open a claim I literally wait until the last week. I explain what I am doing after 30 days and what I am going to do after 40 days occurs. More than enough time. It sucks having x amount of money out for that long, but if you have already spent the money then you wouldn't have it anyways, so that's how I look at it.
If a seller says they are shipping in a certain manner (in this case with tracking) and it has been 2 weeks then you have every right to inquire about it. You have every right even after 1 week.
I am in a situation where I saw a 1/1 card sell for $150 and 3 weeks later I bought it from that buyer (feedback confirms) for $58 and they have not shipped it. After 1 week I inquired and they gave a lame excuse like 'didn't you just pay for this a couple days ago?' No, both our eBay's state I paid 9 days ago. I knowthis card is not going to arrive. It sold for too little. Seller is upset.
People think 1/1s can make them money. I know for a fact I sold a 1/1 from the same set and almost same stature (my Forsberg to his Thornton. I posted my break after the Toronto Spring Expo and got many replies.) and it sold for $109.99. To think he could buy it for $150 and flip for $200+ tells me he is inexperienced as a collector, as a seller and/or with this particular set. Many factors, really. I have lost money many times but that is the only way you can gain experience, through buying and selling.
As for the seller that asked about other payments, perhaps the buyer does not have the funds on PayPal and can't cover with his default account set-up with PayPal. Money Order would be my guess as I have only received cash from young buyers with no Credit Card. Money orders should be able to be cashed at the post office before you even send the envelope. (In Canada, anyways)
Best of luck all. You can always contact me if you have questions. Been in the game for 20 years and not just sports cards.Master List: Hidden Content
