Sold a card on ebay about 2 weeks ago. On Xmas eve receive a message that they want to me to leave feedback for them but didn't see it. The day after Xmas receive another msg that this time I saw to leave feedback. This time I replied that I would be doing so after the holidays for all purchases. But also mentioned that they had not left any feedback for me either as well despite their requests. Today I received a response back to my message and inquiry. The message stated that they would leave feedback once I did. Something about this user feels off, so proceed at caution. Can provide name if privately asked.

They can hit you with a negative anytime they want and there is nothing you can do (unless they contravened eBay guidelines). If the buyer paid in a prompt manner why not leave feedback? They fulfilled their end of the transaction. If you don't they might decide to hit you with a negative feedback anyways. Look at the buyer's feedback. Do they have a history of leaving negatives? Do they have lots of positive feedback? Maybe they need a couple of more feedback to reach a new level?
When I sell on eBay I always leave feedback first. If the buyer reciprocates great, if not I don't lose sleep over it. Over 1100 feedback on eBay, my seller account, and I've never received a negative or a neutral. As buyer I never leave feedback for buyers who do not leave it for me. Once I've paid I've covered my end of the transaction. Sellers who claim to withhold feedback to "make sure that the buyer is satisfied" never fool anyone with that statement. On the flip side, I will never contact a buyer and ask for feedback either.
Just my thoughts. Good luck in your situation.

I have my eBay settings set to leave positive feedback automatically once it is received. Unfortunately, when running box breaks, it became a necessity as there were some people who would try feedback extortion for a refund if they didn't get a hit.
Also, for me when doing a great deal of volume, automating it this way just made my life a lot easier. I've never asked someone to leave me feedback either, can't be bothered & have over 7000.

Im here looking for an honest opinion for a very small, insignificant issue lol. This issue is burning me up more out of principle and my past experiences primarily as a seller on Ebay. 1800 unique feedbacks.
Bought a card, paid $4US for shipping. I knew when I was paying that the Canadian Seller was charging way to much for that but I needed that card. Typically I charge $3. Card arrived, packaged well in a bubble padded envelope but the seller got away with only $1 postage. This surprised me as my bubble envelopes always came back to sender with the standard postage so I always apply the proper postage of a $1.80. If it wasn't for the $1 postage stamp I wouldn't care. lol, that $1 stamp really has me peeved. This seller charged $6 for what it cost him $1.40 including supplies to ship to me.
After consideration for a couple days I still can't decide what kind of feedback to leave.
1. I knew full well ahead of time what shipping cost was. So however and how much the seller spent to get the card to me in a timely and safe matter is none of my business and I should leave positive.
2. I am sick of being scammed by unscrupulous buyers that claim they don't receive their cards and being charged more for shipping then what it actually cost.
I don't know, I rarely buy cards on Ebay, the one time I do I feel like it wasn't fair.

I'll be honest with you, by buying the card you agreed to pay the shipping $4 US. You might have been better off negotiating that before buying. I understand it's a frustrating experience and I feel eBay is partly to blame for that since their fees are exorbitant. Sellers charging more for shipping is just a way to recoup some of those fees at the buyer's expense.
If I were you, I'd leave basic positive feedback and move on. Or leave no feedback at all. :P

I personally decided from now on, I would leave positive feedback for those sellers but in the shipping and handling charges, I would leave 2 or 3 stars. With the canadian dollar so low, ripping people off charging 4-5 US$ is just wrong.

Leaving low star ratings can do almost as much damage as a negative feedback. If you know the price of the shipping up from you generally take that into consideration as a whole when purchasing an item. If I know I want to spend $10 on a card I don't really care if;
a) I pay $1 for the card and $9 for shipping
b) I pay $10 for the card with free shipping
At the end of the day as long as the card arrives in a timely fashion and in the condition it was sold in their going to get a positive feedback with 5 stars.
Being bitter about what you agreed to pay for an item that you received seems like a moot point to me.

I don't care, my choice. Why is that option available then? (How reasonable was the shipping cost?) I'm giving an honest answer, too much!

I just did a big multi-quote here, because this is something that bothers me more than people not paying for auctions they win, lol (that just happened to me. Waited two weeks, and then I just canceled the transaction. Whatever.)
This has always been my take:
- If you clearly lay out what your shipping charges are, and I bid, then I agree to pay them.
- If you do NOT clearly lay out how you will ship the card, then I don't know if I'm getting good value or not.
- If I get my card quickly, communication was fine (or wasn't applicable), and the card is as described, then you're getting 5 stars in 3 of the 4 categories.
Shipping charges? If you're taking $6 out of my pocket (after exchange) and giving me less than $2 in value, then I am going to leave you a low star rating. ReimerFan is right. Low stars, and how they will affect your bottom line, are almost as bad as negative feedback. THAT is why I do it. If you're charging me more than 3x the actual cost of shipping, you don't deserve to be getting your fees knocked down. That's supposed to be a reward for sellers who do an excellent job, not something they should just automatically get.
A $1 card that costs $9 ship, or a $9 card that costs $1 to ship (assume we're talking USD, for a Canada-To-Canada transaction) is completely different IMO. If these are, in fact, the same card.... $10 might be my budget for the card, both are within that budget, I might buy both - but what I'd expect (and what it will take to get 5 stars on shipping) are now totally different:
The first guy, he better be sending it express (with tracking number). A brand new one-touch would be nice, but not required.
The second guy? If it's in a reinforced PWE, and a taped up toploader, providing it came free of damage, I'm happy.
If you don't explicitly tell me how you're going to ship, I have to assume that your methods are fair for what you're charging.
I don't mind if sellers are making minimal amounts off shipping costs. I recently lowered mine from $2.49 to $2 (Canada-to-Canada) and actually did a couple of 49 cent refunds for people, because I only lowered the costs in a few auction descriptions... and not the actual shipping charge section (both cases they were surprised, didn't realize they overpaid). I'm not trying to sound like a saint here, but $2 USD is about what it costs me to send a card out in the mail ($1.80 CND stamp + supplies). I state in my auctions that I will send up to 10 card for no additional charge, but normally I don't apply any extra charge if someone goes over that (if they bought that many cards, I'm okay taking a hit on shipping).
To sum it up: I don't care how much of your time is spent shipping, and I don't care how much you're paying in eBay / PayPal fees: I'm doing the same thing. If you want me to cover those costs, put that into your item prices, not your shipping charges.
