That is true according to the language in the contract. However, word is the Glazers (Bucs owners) love Jameis and are still all-in on him and will honor the $21m option for next season with an eye to extending him long-term ... BUT …honestly I think Jameis is hoping the team backs out and lets him hit free agency … they haven't been able to build an even average defense in the 4 years he's been there, despite spending the 6th most on defense in the league, haven't had even a league average running game in 3 years and passed on Adrian Peterson who desperately wanted to play with Jameis (A.P. was quoted just a week ago confirming this and raving about Jameis' work ethic and leadership), have a head coach who doesn't seem to know what he's doing and play in the toughest division in football … personally, I think Jameis would love to be able to pick his own team from amongst the Giants, Broncos, Jaguars and Dolphins … I'm not sure which of those 4 teams he'd choose to sign with but I have a hunch … interesting times are ahead and we'll see what happens.
As crazy as it sounds, I bet Aaron Rodgers would love to be in Jameis' position right now as I think he'd also love to be able to hit free agency this offseason … I don't think he likes being in Green Bay AT ALL ...Last edited by Jameis1of1; 11-16-2018 at 03:59 PM.

I think if he truly wanted out of Green Bay he simply wouldn't have signed the extension. I don't think he likes losing while in an offense that is lacking in creativity or not understanding that running the ball helps keep defenses from selling out against the pass.

He had NO REAL CHOICE but to sign the extension … he knows full well that if he refuses to sign the extension, the Packers would just franchise him over and over again and he'd put his future earnings at risk every single season ...

Rodgers is the only reason McCarthy has kept his job for so long. I don't think he is a very good head coach and it showed last night along with many other times.

Honestly, I'm not sure where I fall on the whole Rodgers/McCarthy thing … obviously Rodgers is a marvelous talent but his QBR has dropped three straight seasons and he's just 8-8-1 in his last 17 games … he still has an insane TD/INT ratio which the media fawns over but his comp %, QBR and win % have all gone down three straight seasons … now, I am NOT saying Rodgers hit a cliff or anything like that as he's still magnificent, but I don't know if he's capable at this time of carrying a completely average NFL roster to a great record …
As for McCarthy … he's got a winning record in 8 of his last 9 seasons leading into this year … but … would be have anywhere near the same record if he had a mere average to good QB? Who knows.
Personally I'd love to see Rodgers in a mega media market like New York or LA as he's a diva and it'd be fun to see him deal with the media in those cities … and as for McCarthy I do think this will be his last year in Green Bay but that he'll be snapped up quick by another team, perhaps the Broncos, Buccaneers, Browns … or maybe even the Cardinals though he might view Rosen as another Rodgers-esque personality and pass on that job offer.

The bigger issue for GB is that the last couple of years they've drafted heavily on defense which caused offensive skill players to start aging out without obvious replacements. Some of those defensive picks haven't hit and when a team is customarily drafting late in each round, missing on those hits is particularly glaring. Their penchant for trading back has gotten a lot of good role players and contributors through the years, but precious few impact players that can elevate the play of the the whole starting lineup. Rodgers is great but even great QBs cant make hay with nothing. Personally from what I've seen of Rodgers in interviews and on the field I'd disagree that he's a diva but I can't summon the energy to mount a debate so I'll leave it with only my perception.

Imagine Rodgers on the Bucs with all the offensive weapons. That would be insane. The Packers as a team are not very good. Defense is weak and other than Davante Adams no other receiving threats.
Think of all the great comebacks Rodgers has had over the years. That is what I meant by saving McCarthy's job over and over. Rodgers makes McCarthy look much better than he is.

Rodgers is known to be a massive diva ...
I agree Rodgers makes McCarthy look better than he is … but I doubt even Rodgers would have a winning record in Tampa, not with no running game, a bad O-Line, the worst overall defense in the NFL, and maybe the worst pass defense in the history of the NFL in a league that now revolves around passing …
I also saw a Colin Cowherd segment today where he sort of bashed Rodgers and pointed out that Rodgers has a worse career road winning percentage than QBs like Any Dalton, Michael Vick and others … I mean, that is strange, but I hate when "win percentage" is tied to QBs as football is the ultimate team sport.

Oh, Jameis, part of me wishes he wasn't basically "Black Tebow" at the podium, as he deserved to gloat and rip his coach, who nearly all of Tampa seems to have been ripping for the past 3 weeks … but no … that's not Jameis.
After replacing Fitzpatrick, who recorded his 6th turnover in the last 6.5 quarters, and had lead the team to just 10 total points in those 6.5 quarters, Jameis came in and led the team on 4 straight TD drives, which he had a perfect 158.3 passer rating on, and ended up with 215 total yards and 28 team points scored in just under 22 minutes game-time … and when he stood in front of the podium for the post-game press conference and was asked about Head Coach Dirk Koetter, Jameis did what Jameis always does, he took one for the team … he said, "I love my head coach" and refused to say a single negative thing … I mean, I get it, he's the Black Tebow when it comes to dealing with the press, he's always positive, never throws a coach or teammate under the bus even when they deserve it, etc., but man, I don't know if I could bite my lip time and time and time again in the same situations …
However, while the 215 yards and 28 points in under 22 minutes of game-time was awesome to see … the news that broke that Bruce Arians is ready to be a head coach again, was just about as sweet, as I love me some Bruce Arians, and Arians loves him some Jameis Winston, and it seems like a foregone conclusion that Dirk Koetter will be fired sooner rather than later … we'll see what happens.
After this last performance, I believe Jameis will be top 10 in QBR on the season when the stats are set after the Monday night game, which will be cool … but I also think the Bucs team may mail the season in, as at 3-7 there isn't anything to play for other than a high draft pick, so who knows how his numbers will look at the end of the year …
Oh, and BTW, I could watch Saquon Barkley play every game for the rest of his career and probably not get bored … what a remarkable talent that young man is as well!
