They didn't do something stupid by replacing the young guns acetate with the new future watch acetate, right?

This just in: Eichel FW Auto are marked 15-16 behind

Not good. That'll make a lot of people upset. Should have been marked 18-19.

    That's a big fail.

Here's a scan of the back of a Nico.....

    Absolutely pathetic.

    1. Upper Deck has tanked the values of their own (previously released) cards, that collectors paid decent money to acquire when they were new. Zero regard for those people.
    2. Upper Deck, once again, seems to be intent on obliterating the definition of a "Rookie Card". They know full well that people will complain, so they stick a silly 'XRC' tag on their checklist.... while issuing cards that are indistinguishable from any other Autographed Future watch from those cards respective seasons.
    3. Have to bet there will be more 'XRC' cards of these guys the rest of the way. Cup ARPs for sure. Maybe others?

I can believe one of two things. Either Upper Deck reached deals to get these players to sign cards, and thought this was a wonderful opportunity to right a wrong. Used the old designs, and printed new cards exactly "as they would have been".... or they simply printed off two runs of these cards during their respective seasons, know full well that would eventually do this, given the chance.

Edited: The 2019 copyright (which I never even thought to look at) shows which of those two it was.

I'm not sure which one of those two things is worse, but I feel like Upper Deck has more contempt than regard for this hobby, and its customers.

So a bit of a clarification here:
It does say "2015-16 SP Authentic Hockey" BUT it also has the copyright 2019 at the bottom. It's likely going to end up causing some confusion for people down the road for sure.

That's interesting. I proposed (in a post 30 seconds ago, that I will now edit) that UD did one of two things. That firms up which one it was. Printed new cards, using old designs.

So there will be a way to differentiate between these cards, and other FWAs from the original release. It's small, and something that people would likely never look at... but at least it's there.

Of course it's going to end up causing confusion for people down the road. That's what they want. These cards aren't even worth half if they're numbered as some kind of tribute series.

Man, that's just brutal, especially seeing it with my own eyes. Anyone have a picture of the back of a Eichel FWA? (Nevermind, just saw Richard's post on the page before)

I would bet money we're going to being seeing this same tactic pulled in The Cup as well. That's just sad.

I have no problems with Upper Deck using the same design, but trying to pass these off as legit 2015-16/2017-18 cards on the backs without any markings saying otherswise is just wrong.

Edit: Just saw the C 2019 remark posted above. So that's something, but still very small that a lot of collectors (myself included) will miss at first glance.

They should just take back the original release, card for card, like a Redemption and give collectors the auto version instead seeding them into packs. The original, non-auto versions, are worthless now in my eyes.

Just quoting my original response to this thread.

This was too predictable and a major fail on UD.

I maintain UD should offer a consolation to those collectors who have the non-auto version. Whether it is a straight one-for-one replacement or a box of SPA, ignoring the fact that this move on UD part completely destroys the value of the non-auto version is a blatant abuse of power.

I foresee a lawsuit coming to UD unless they fix this quickly as I am sure there are collectors who lost real dollars and will ask a court of law to remedy.

While I agree this is pretty lame, I don't see how anyone could think a lawsuit is warranted.

I would tend to agree. No way a suit would work.

What it should do is errode trust in their brand. What cards are they going to reprint next, that tank the value of what We're already holding?

Everyone complained about ITG Vault, but at least you can spot the difference in about 2 seconds.

I'm just going to play devil's advocate a little here. While this will cause confusion among casual collectors, seasoned collectors will know the difference. And these are not considered true RCs, so I don't think it will have as much of an impact on the value of the originals as people fear.

Reprint scandal number 2: why did they make another gritty young guns? It's not even 2 years later and they're doing the same stuff to grittyScreenshot_20190605-232547_eBay.jpg

I thought the Gritty cards (in SPA) were acetate or clear cut, or something like that?
