I just don't see everyone thinking Mayo is a point guard...... more turnovers than assists in college? He'll have enough of an outside shot to be a two-guard, but I'd be very scared to annoit him the lead decision maker on my team.

If his ratio was that bad, I agree with you.

    ok here we go.
with the fourth pick in the 2008 nba draft, the seattle supersonics select jerryd bayless, from the university of arizona.

    Position: Point Guard
    Height: 6'3"
    Weight: 193 lbs

Analysis: We decided to pick Jerryd at this spot because we need another person to team up with Luke Ridnour. Ridnour hasn't been performing to the level that we had hoped he could be, so we picked Bayless to bring his lightning speed, great passing and ball control, and amazing shooting to seattle (or whatever the heck city we are now). Another reason we brought in Bayless is to have another ball-distributor to feed the ball to Kevin Durant, and so Kevin had another player he could pass off to. We're hoping the tandem of Durant and Bayless will be enough to add another 15+ wins on our belt this year.

With the 5th pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, the Memphis Grizzlies select Kevin Love, power forward from the UCLA Bruins

    Kevin Love
    6 Foot 9 inches
    255 pounds

Sure, everyone loves the prepackaged superstar OJ Mayo, but after having Navarro, Conley, and Crittenton along with swing players Mike Miller and Rudy Gay, Mayo just isn't a good fit here. And do we really see him being excited to be in Memphis?

Kevin Love brings a tenacity and basketball IQ that is severly lacking, and the Grizzles need to take a frontcourt player at all costs (Warrick isn't a banger, Kwame is wonderful as an expiring contract). He is incredibly strong for his size and can mix physicality and finesse quite well. He shows a patience in the post and is an upper-end passer at his position already. He establishes position quickly and had great hands for catching passes in traffic. He can shoot out to 18 feet, and should continue to refine that range. His outlet passes will be great for swing players like Rudy Gay and fast break point guard Mike Conley and Juan Carlos Navarro. He will find spot up 3 point shooter Mike Miller and can take some rebounding pressure off the "somewhat soft" Hakim Warrick.

We realize that out of Mayo, Anthony Randolph, Danilo Gallinari, and DeAndre Jordan, someone will turn out to be a bigger star than Love. But we feel confident we are selecting a player who will show up every night, do the dirty work players with contracts don't want to do, and be a model citizen both on and off the court. We have plenty of potential in other players we have drafted, the ceiling may not be as high but we know that Love will have an instant impact on the floor. Besides, we can't trade this pick for Kwame Brown anyway.
