2 problems:
paragraph 1: so according to you, since blacks were discriminated against in the past, they have a right to discriminate against whites now?
paragraph 2: unfortunately it isn't that simple. when it is harder for me to be accepted to college, and harder for me to pay for college because I am white, it isn't "as simple as that." Do you agree that a white scholarship program would never be allowed?

Ensberg - you come off argumentive about this while thread as RGW is just making some rather valid points. If there is a party and you and your buds ain't invited, you start your own up.
The UNCF serves a purpose and doesn't in any way take away from your chance as a white student to attend school. Its not like the UNCF bought out an existing scholorship program for all races and made it black only.
I don't have a problem with things that were created in the past continuing today as long as they serve a purpose or have some value. I don't have any issue with the Rebel Flag flying at Ol' Miss so why should I have issue with the UNCF ?

I think and hope that my generation and the ones following it will no longer even talk about racism. No one my age cares. It's the Baby Boomers that keep bringing it up.

Racism will continue to exist as long as the concept of "race" remains as the proponent of our classification system.
In this, there are inevitable discrepancies in how we utilize and implement said classifications because of variations outside of the normative rules of the system (i.e. the concept of "multiracial"). These inequalities then manifest themselves in social relations as racism.

It's just funny how in elementary school, we are taught to respect everyone. They didn't mention race much at my school, and we were all friends. Then we got older and the media talked about nothing but race.
Like I said, racism in America is fueled by those above the age of 40 or so. Maybe older. I can't wait for it to be stomped out when I'm 50.

when a white male applies for scholarships to college and he is only eligable for roughly 35% of the total scholarships, that isn't being argumentative. That is a problem.
And again, no one seems to respond to my question about what would happen if someone attempted to start a white only college fund. Are you telling me there wouldn't be protests and lawsuits by the likes of sharpton and jackson?
Red- if I am coming across as argumentative, I do apologize to you. You and I debate rather frequently but I hope you know I look at you with the utmost respect and you have even swayed me on a few things over the months. You know I can get heated but in this I was honestly just looking for your opinion. Thanks man

Maybe because schools just don't feel that they are good enough to coach and no i'm not being racist...Look at the NFL there are 3-4 head coaches in the past couples years that are black that come to mind...and considering america is 12% black that sounds spot on 1/10 (10% of the NFL coaches are black) so that's about the population and also maybe black people don't want to get into coaching and want to relax when they retire, just a thought also.

no, that is not what i believe...but I’m not sure a college scholarship is discriminatory either…you still have to earn it because they aren’t just giving them away…most UNCF scholarships go to inner city students to attend UNCF member colleges, which are mostly the historically black schools. It was established in 1944 so that black people in the south could school themselves since white people refused to. They can claim Martin Luther King, Jr. & Samuel L. Jackson as alumni. JFK donated the money from his Pulitzer to the fund, and some billionaire donated a crap load of money to it. Why do they have to stop it now? Because racism doesn’t exist anymore?
I want to point out the 12.4% number mentioned earlier…that actually represents 2nd place in the United States, trailing only German Ancestry at 15.2% and ahead of Irish-Americans in 3rd at 10.8%. The thing is White America is a whole group of people including German, Irish, English, Italian, Mexican, Polish, French, Dutch, Russian, etc…….resulting in a massive 76%...White America makes up 3/4 of America and roughly the same percent in colleges and universities. There are scholarships available to people for all sorts of things and ways to get funding just about everywhere (well maybe not in today’s economy). If a white person can’t find a way into school today with those kinds of numbers, it’s not the UNCF’s fault. It’s also easier for white people to get in due to legacy. Princeton has something like 12% of general applicants be admitted, while 40% of legacy applicants were admitted.
I think it’s a little ironic that in this so called ‘black belt’ in the south, black people are the majority in a land 150 years earlier their ancestors were slaves to….where only 40 years ago there was still segregation…and now suddenly everything is equal…while things may be more equal now then they have ever been, it is still far from close.
also...ensberg, i dont think you're being argumentative at all, as if thats a bad thing...the whole point is to discuss the topic, so i dont know how that came up...if everybody agreed, there'd be nothing to talk about
