I learned through my own personal experience that this is a lesson you have to learn on your own and usually when it's too late...doesn't matter what people tell you, love makes blundering idiots of us all.

As a recent newlywed I can offer some advice... the biggest being this:
Split the chores.
This has worked out well for me and my wife.
For instance...
I have agreed to do the majority of the cooking, and she has agreed to tell me after the fact that it wasn't what she wanted to eat.
I have agreed to do the physical labor jobs around the house, and she has agreed to tell me how I am doing it wrong and how I might do it better.
You see??? Compromise.

thats married life. My friends used to be able to make their own decisions, now they're married and have to check and make sure their wives haven't already made plans for them
