I just caught up reading the other posts...couldn't resist commenting on some of the old stuff.
Agree 100%...
Completely agree about Nolan, he's fantastic. LOVED Following, Memento, and The Prestige and really liked the two Batmans and Insomnia. One of the very few directors working today that I make it a point to see their movies.
About Bale, I wouldn't say plenty. Here's what I've seen of his:
Velvet Goldmine - didn't like it, but only because the subject isn't my thing
American Psycho - very good dark comedy
Reign of Fire - like you said, cool idea, not a good movie
Equilibrium - I'm sure it could have been better, but I really enjoyed it
The Machinist - Very good, underappreciated flick
Batman Begins - Obvious
The Prestige - Fantastic
3:10 to Yuma - Not as good as the original, but very good
The Dark Knight - Obvious
And there are several others I want to see but haven't gotten around to yet, nothing that stands out as a blatantly bad movie...that's a pretty good list, especially in today's Hollywood. He too is one of the few people that I make a point to try to see their movies.
I think he's gone through the normal big name leading actor cycle. He started off with the small roles in whatever he could get...then he moved up to the bigger roles in smaller movies, but made good choices in the projects he did...he started getting recognized and landed the big fish role in Batman Begins...now he's one of the big boys that can do the blockbuster flicks for the huge paycheck every couple of years. There aren't many big time leads that haven't moved to the paycheck blockbusters.
As for Terminator Salvation, it looks cool, but as mentioned is directed by a bad director and I expect it to be nothing more than action-packed popcorn fodder...which definitely has it's place and I enjoy it as much as anyone, but it doesn't make for a "great" movie.
By the way, am I the only person who has never seen any Terminator?

No, I'm not. I have watched tons, TONS of movies...with most people, for everyone movie they can name that I haven't seen, I can name two or three they haven't...I consider myself a movie buff (and a movie snob, as Rockman called it), but there are a certain few that everyone has seen that I have not. The Terminators are some, also I've never seen Titanic.
With the Terminators, they always looked cool, but I've never been a fan of Ahnold, so they weren't hugely appealing to me. The first one came out when I was really young and my parents didn't want to see it, so I never got to. Then the second one came out and I didn't want to watch it before the first...but I still never got around to it. Then along comes 3 and it's to the point that I don't even really care to see the first one now.
They've always been on my list to watch, but there are so many other movies ahead of it on the list.

wow, Terminator has to be one of the best films of the year so far. So much great action

yeah but that isn't saying too much. The Terminator series is a 'guy's movie' genre, if you look at the review the percentage went down because every female critic didn't like it. Are we really going to take into account their reviews when they also rated 17 Again with Zac Efron (55%) and Every Little Step (documentary on Broadway performers) (88%) as some of their higher rated films so far this year?
