what were the flyers thinking. ducks got the best out of this deal.

haha did you read everything I just said?

This is a great deal for the Flyers. Since you prob don't feel like reading everything, here are the main points

    1. Flyers missing piece in their defense is a big, nasty D man who moves the puck well and can provide an intimidating factor - Pronger provides that

    2. Sbisa, and the two draft picks wont be truly NHL ready for 2-3 seasons. Sbisa may be ready sooner, but our D is tough to break into he. He would be the 6th man possibly.

    3. Lupol is garbage and a waste of cap space. He doesnt work hard, and his goals come in spurts. He is inconsistent and awful in his own end. His plus minus is low which proves his work ethic is just souring to watch.

    4. We are not over the Cap. We are now two million under as Holmgren has stated.

This move does not hurt the flyers now, it may hurt them in 5-6 years as some people are projecting because we will not have "NEW TALENT coming in". That's unfair to say. We have the #2 overall pick in 2007 James vanRiemsdyk waiting in the wing to step up and be a top 9 forward, and Claude Giroux will be a top 3-6 forward this year.

It wont be long before Giroux is a 100 point producer.

    This is a great move!

i wonder why it didn't go through. Maybe Jbo is looking for 7 million or more.

It appears they wanted Gagne and JVR. Not sure how calgary was ableto just get rid of leopold and a pick

i know there probably is some sort of component involved that Florida wanted him out of the East, but I find it hard to believe they wouldn't do Sbisa and 2 1's for Jbo's rights if this is what they dealt him for...

James Van Riemsdiek the 2nd overall pick 2 years ago. And He only puts JVR because thats easier than spelling out his whole name.

This is a great deal for the Flyers. Since you prob don't feel like reading everything, here are the main points

Well since you were nice enough to bullet the thing, twice, why not respond the same way.

    1. Flyers missing piece in their defense is a big, nasty D man who moves the puck well and can provide an intimidating factor - Pronger provides that

    Yes, yes he does.

    2. Sbisa, and the two draft picks wont be truly NHL ready for 2-3 seasons. Sbisa may be ready sooner, but our D is tough to break into he. He would be the 6th man possibly.

See this is why Philly's philosophy has baffled me the last 20+ years I've watched this team, yeah Sbisa and the two draft picks wouldn't be instantly usable. Yes they would need developement time. But with such a talented defensive core Sbisa could've HAD the time to develope. Consistant winning hockey at the highest level is a combination of the veterans and well developed talent from within the organization. Ditching 3 players who might have been great players, for 1 player who's 34 and isn't going to magically get the flyers the cup, was dumb. It's selling the future for the immediate.

    3. Lupol is garbage and a waste of cap space. He doesnt work hard, and his goals come in spurts. He is inconsistent and awful in his own end. His plus minus is low which proves his work ethic is just souring to watch.

Plus he was dramatically overpaid and largely only played well due to the talent around him.

    4. We are not over the Cap. We are now two million under as Holmgren has stated.

2 million under in the current league is cutting it close, if the goalie bombs we have no room to go after another one and lord only know who ends up in the net.

Boy we really do think alike, just have differant points of view about the things we agree on. Yes this will hurt them in the long run. They are giving up young talent and picks for a 34 year old defenseman. Yes he's a great fit right now and will help. But if they fail to win the cup, they'll have 3 less young players and more holes to fill. JVR is great and all, in theory, but he will need people around him.

It wont be long before Giroux is a 100 point producer.

Consistant 30 goal scorer with 75 points per season. Solid player but will likely never be the big time player everyone is thinking he'll be. Not that 30 goals 75 points per season is bad mind you.

    This is a great move![/I]

Depends, if you feel this will get the flyers the cup within the next 2 years, yes it will. But that's putting ALOT of faith in a goalie who wasn't in the NHL last year not to mention the team really did sink rather quickly once the playoffs started. That sinking had nothing to do with the lack of a big dman.
