I comprehend. I disagree. That shouldn't come off as ignoring. How superior of you!
It's cheaper to have a cell phone than to buy food. That's your main point, right? From the looks, Dude had a nice phone. I'll bet there are a lot of people just like him that have phones upwards of $150, and they get free food daily. Cell phones are not a necessity to life. Food is. Buy your freaking food. If you can't, you deserve help. But it would be nice to see if they cared that the terrible rich folk are paying for their meals.

lol...i dont know why you'd say "how superior of you" or what that even means, but whatever dood...you asked me to type "people should buy phones before food" so you could put that in your sig...which isn't even what i said...obviously, or you wouldn't have asked me to write it
i am not at all saying cell phones are more important than food...my point is if your homeless, where are you going to store your food? it's nice to think that people should buy their own food, but if you have no where to keep it, what good does that do them and how does that help the person other than so you can say they bought their food.
a cell phone, in my opinion, is not a luxury item these days...yes, people can walk...but trust me, you can have a phone for about 10 bucks a month if you only use it for important things, including work...the only thing i'm really trying to get across to you is that things aren't always absolute
curious if you ever spoke to any of the homeless people you passed in chicago? i'm assuming that you're assuming they did nothing and stood in the same spot all day. sure there's homeless that are like that, and it's probably the majority...but don't pretend that there aren't homeless people who are trying to be not homeless...don't pretend that there aren't homeless who work jobs
i know a homeless person who works at Red Lobster and has a cell phone...i know several people who have a home, a job and a cell phone, and still don't have enough money to consistently buy their own food and go to soup kitchens and food banks...you say cut the cell phone out, but that will save them all of 2-3 meals per month and they'd still be going to food banks

I'm participating in a homlessness event on the 24th, I'll see how many have cell phones. I can already think of two who I know (donated glasses to them), and they're drunken scum, but have phones nonetheless.

and i don't doubt it at all...there are drunken scum who are worth millions...hell, there are even millionaires who become homeless...i just don't like blanket statements that come off like every situation is the same

Oh, absolutely. A lot of them are actually decent people who just can't catch a break. That's why I'm jazzed to be joining this event. I'll be donating about 15 exams/glasses. There are a few who are legally blind, and can barely function without corrective lenses.

Please post the article that explains that hes homeless. I have been to soup kitchens and such to visit relatives and even go down to there for free aids test just to get the free $10 Wal-Mart Card they give out for participating. For every 5 people you bring to get tested they give you another $10. That doesnt mean Im homeless.

I've also given to the homeless. Our school did "Shoebox Ministries", where we filled shoe boxes with basic needs, and then ministered to them. Many of them came to us and then asked about our message (christian message). It was great. A lot of homeless people just cant help it.
I also think that there is no reason for a poor or homeless person to have a CELL PHONE. I dont care how much it costs. Every application for a job I've put in was in paper, not by using my cell phone. So dont use the cell phone ase a reason. How long can you live without a cellphone? and then how long can you live without food and water?
My step-dad has asked numerous homeless guys to work for him for money, only one ever did it. My step-dad paid him, and he was SO gracious. So my dad paid him a little more, just because he really was so gracious, and not just a "beggar". (spelling on beggar). The man really wanted to work, and just hadn't found a job yet.

When you got the job, how did they contact you?

I agree, and a very nice gesture/act on your part.

I'll own that I'm not a big fan of the wealthy, but I think its fairly obvious you don't care for the poor and you see them as a burden.
