So anyone who thinks people should put money towards food before cel phones doesn't care for them and sees them as a burden? I guess that's what this country is coming to, Handout Nation...and anyone who doesn't happily provide the handouts is inherently evil.

Its not about the handouts or cell phones but the writers general description of the poor. Assuming that all people living in poverty have luxary items is a pretty uninformed view.

Where did he assume all people living in poverty have luxury items? "I'll bet there are a lot of people just like him" in no way implies he thinks every poor person has a cel phone.

Well I Interpreted that from his description of "a lot of people". Maybe a better word choice would have been "a minority of the poor".
