nobody runs the wildcat like the dolphins...no other team in the league has the personnel to run the wildcat like the dolphins

the dolphins lineup with 4 RB's and 2 TE's on occasion...no QB, no WR...everybody knows it's a run play, but nobody can stop it...on the rare occasion they throw it, they have the perfect TE in Fasano for this package...Sticky Icky Ricky is still a beast, and in combo with Ronnie Brown they have the best 2 RB set in the league

you always hear the NFL is a copycat league (which it is), but no other team is even coming close to duplicating the success with the wildcat...maybe it's because no team is committed to running it as often as the Dolphins...it seems like they run the wildcat about 1/3 of their plays (granted i've only watched them twice this year, last night & week 2 against Indy), but i know they ran it with success against buffalo last week too

all i'm saying is i don't think there is a single club that has the players to execute this formation in the NFL other than the dolphins

Why dont you watch some old 1940's and 1950's film and pay attention to an A formation(2 backs no qb)...wildcat is nothing new, its just being added too...

    Copycats....makes me laugh inside...lol

Wildcat is the offense of Six-Man Football, a form of high school football, played mostly in rural West Texas, that was developed in 1934. In Six-Man, the person who receives the snap may not run the ball past the line of scrimmage. To bypass this limitation, teams often hike the ball to a receiver, who then tosses the ball to the potential passer. The passer may then throw the ball to a receiver or run with the ball himself.

    notice the date....

dood...i was born in 1982...i think i'll pass on watching 1940's game film...but if i change my mind, im sure you have a library of film from that period that i could watch...right? didn't think so

i know enough about football to know that it is an old formation that has been dusted off....but since it hasn't been ran by an nfl team in, oh, i guess 50+ years, then yes, it's something new...the dolphins started using it last year, had success, and now other teams are trying to copycat

    lol...im laughing inside

and why did they use it last year??? Cause the New O coordinator used it in college? You mine as well call this Noodlecat, they never would of used it as much if Pennington could of thrown over 20 yards...same with Orton, no arm. Same reason mccoy prob went to Eagles, he ran wildcat in college all the time..

It has been used in the NFL before 08..its been used in CFL, UFL, about any FL you can imagine....about any highschool level, peewee lvl, college level..

I believe Coach Sparano said he started using the wildcat last year because they couldn't run the ball effectively. The reason I think it is so successful is Ronnie Brown. He looks so comfortable coming out of that formation while Pat White doesn't look as fluid with his motions.

I love when people say they used it because of pennington's inability to throw the ball far. Granted he doesn't have a cannon but the guy can throw a deep ball. Threw a few last year to ginn, one of which was one of the better catches i saw made last season. They started running it because Henning and Sparano wanted to use a set that put their best athletes on the field at the same time (cobbs, brown, williams, fasano). So they probably would have started running it no matter who the qb was.

i believe it started out of necessity because pennington had a noodle arm (as accurate as he may be), and not much talent at WR

yes, i understand that...i already stated that

and yes, i do know that variations are ran in college, where it is much more prevalant...not once did i deny this or say anything contrary...never once did i claim the dolphins invented it

but i am talking about the NFL, and not the minor leagues or prep leagues....and while it has on occasion been used in the past, it was never anything other than a gadget play that was ran once in the course of a game...from 1940 (or whatever date you last witnessed it) until 2008, no team was running the formation 15-20 times a game like the dolphins

it's fairly obvious you are a master of football knowledge, and i do not want to get into a losing argument with such an expert...i simply started this thread to discuss what was an incredible performance by the dolphins on monday night, and my belief on why they are so succesful and others are not
