Why isn't it the sellers responsibility to describe their shipping discount in the listing. General descriptions lead to situations like this.

This just reads as an argument of deflecting the responsibility to ask your own questions and use your own responsibility.

And, as far as I understand it, the seller just said he would combine shipping, not necessarily discount it. There's combining shipping, and discounting it. Combining shipping is more of a logistical thing, whereas a shipping discount is about the cost.

Nah, you're not in the wrong here. There's actually nothing plain & simple about your situation...the seller was ambiguous about the combined shipping rates, he/she did offer a discount however the total shipping still seems excessive. It's the bidder's responsibility to find out exactly what the shipping costs are prior to bidding, but even though you failed to do so it doesn't justify $8+ to ship a few cards (I'm assuming they'll be shipped in top loaders & a bubble mailer USPS First Class).

I'd bite the bullet and just pay for everything; this way you can avoid a NPB strike and still get the cards you wanted. When you do get them, though, unleash some negative feedback if you're still dissatisfied.

I'm not disagreeing... they should list what their discount is, but in this case they didn't, and you didn't ask so.......

You should not leave negative feedback in that situation. The seller did nothing wrong. Maybe he overcharges for s/h, but that's not his fault that someone paid for it all. If I were the buyer I would leave positive feedback since I received what I bought and just state that I believe seller should lower s/h fees.

    A few thoughts here...

    - You are responsible for asking what "combined shipping" means and what rate the additional cards ship at. Is it your fault that the shipping is excessive? No. Is it your fault that you didn't ask? Yes. Lesson learned.

    - He actually discounted more than 50% of the shipping. The first card was $2.99 leaving $5.30 divided by the other 4 cards, so $1.33 each to ship them. So he discounted the shipping on the other 4 cards by 56%.

    - As someone already pointed out, had you purchased the cards separately then shipping would have been nearly $15. Look at the $8.29 as a savings of $6.71 not an excess cost of $3.50.

    - The idea that S&H is cheap baffles me. Speaking for me personally, I can't ship a card sold on eBay for less than a cost of $4 for myself. I can't touch a padded envelope in my area for less than .75 cents, postage is $1.30, DC is .75 cents, ink and labels add another .25 cents or so, an 8 mile round trip to the P.O. cost me 1/2 gallon of gas so add in another $1.50. All of that adds up to $4.55. If I ship a card for $3.50 S&H I actually lose over $1.

The buyer could of asked but the seller could of also been more clear to avoid situations like this one.

I beg to differ. The buyer could of asked a head of time but the seller should of provided a better description of the combined shipping rate.
