I do not frown upon anyone that is not Straight edge. I respect their lives and their decision. Here is the definition of Straight Edge from Wikipedia.
Straight Edge refers to a lifestyle and youth movement that started within the hardcore punk subculture whose adherents make a lifetime commitment to refrain from drinking alcohol, using tobacco products, and taking any recreational drugs.
WantToTrade- I never heard of that one before, I heard before that you have to give up all sexual relations. But I guess you choose what you want to give up, like some people go vegan.

Straight edge is very healthy. In the day and age where so many people don't give a flying rat's backside about their health, I find it commendable.
I personally drink alcohol in moderation, so I don't qualify as straight edge, but if you have any history of alcohol abuse in your family, it's always a great thing to avoid ever starting something like that. And the benefits of moderation aren't so crucial that everyone should drink, anyway (regular consumption of fish, nuts, and vegetables - three foods many people seem averse to somehow - is far more important health-wise).

Didn't know this designation existed, but I'm one of them, definitely. Kudos, to you, my friend!

Back when I was younger growing up in Colorado, we used to go to a lot of Punk shows in town and no doubt there would always be some straight edgers there with their posse trying to push people around because we smoked or drank. It doesn't apply to just them really as you have your "hardcore" fanyboys no matter the genre, but yes there are people who are straight edge and do go out and intimidate people who are not.

i guess you could say alcoholism is a tradition in my family being theyre from russia its a very high percent chance of being an alcoholic. im a senior in high school and i do drink, but have never touched an illegal drug in my life and am 100% against it. i will never do any drugs, thats a for sure thing, but i do like alcohol. not when i was 15 though so when i was 15 and 16 i would have qualified for straight edge. these high school years went by way too fast and i enjoy myself alot while drinking so i dont deprive myself of a good time and am trying to get the most out of my last year. i respect your views though, please continue

Well, there's going to be people that drink/smoke that are going to intimidate people who are Straight Edge. It's with every social group.

**raises hand**
I like to say its come mostly from being the youngest of three brothers and the fact my parents used to do drugs (dad still does, mom doesn't anymore) Everyone in my family except me smokes, my mom, dad and both brothers smoke cigerattes, dad and both brothers smoke weed, one brother has used way to many different drugs for his own good...
Its simply a choice, and if it means seperating yourself from those who do stupid things, then i say do it, no sense in hanging with the wrong crowd because if they get caught doing something stupid, you'll get caught up and in trouble...Hidden Content
