I have 3 children - oldest is my boy, and next 2 are girls. (We lost a boy between the girls, so kept going). If there's one thing (that has not been mentioned by others so far) you must strive to achieve, it's complete and total patience and understanding. With your child, your wife, and with yourself.

Yes, sometimes your emotions get the best of you. You just need to STOP, and think of what you will say/do before you actually say/do.

I have two kids -- one daughter who just turned 25 and my son is a whole five. Be a good role model for your children. Be proud of everything they do from saying "Mommy" or "Daddy" their first time, to taking their first step, to riding a bike, to starting school, to ending school, to getting married and having their own kids. Then you get to start it over again with your grandkids. And yep I have been blessed with three. Congrats to you and your wife.
