I found myself the other day wondering when 09-10 SPA would come out, then I remembered no more UD, Topps, Etc. :(

Panini is ok, they are doing better than I expected but it's definitely not the same

I found a David Robinson Skybox Rookie under the couch 20 minutes ago.

    Worthless.

Granted, Panini does have a lot of patch cards, most of these cards are event worn. I know UD has their fair share of just event worn cards; but, honestly, how many rookie premiere jerseys did each player wear? It seems like Panini has a million for each player.

One thing I like about Panini is all the excellent patch cards. With upper deck you had to spend like $125 on a box just to get one decent patch card. And sets like SPX, SP Authentic, etc., the odds of getting anything decent in the box were so low, if you did then ok awesome but so much more often then not prices were high and the lure was gambling/risk on the very outside chance of a Jordan, Lebron auto, etc.

With Panini what you get for a $75 box is much better value. Compare to an SP A box for like $120 where you'll only get 2 hits and very likely to be junk players.

There are some things I don't like, such as the manu-patches (especially the 'jersey' letters), the fact that I've been shorted a few hits, and the absence of base rookies from all the sets since Prestige, but I don't see how it's a total train-wreck.

Because Topps and UD never had Billions of event worn jersey for every player.

Panini doesn't have that many rookie GUs out, please. And where does it say the patches are event worn? Nobody cared that they were event worn until Panini came along. IMO, it's better to buy a $70-$80 box and score some nice patches instead of spending $200 on SPGU and getting 100 single color swatches, 10 bobby Brown autos, and maybe one decent patch.

I've bought a box of Prestige, Rookies & Stars and Donruss Elite and have not pulled a patch yet. But from what I've seen on YouTube breaks they're usually 3 color patches.

I'm not hating on Panini. I liked their "Old School" inserts from Prestige and am putting together the whole set only it seems that some players didn't sign for them so I'm stuck with what I have. I'm not a fan of those...holofoil? parallel cards. Has anyone pulled an X-Fractor from a panini product? Maybe in future products... I guess I'm just longing for those Upper Deck products we'd be busting right about now.

Lol, someone's heartbroken. There's always previous years of Topps Chrome to break. There'll never be a Blake Griffin Bowman , Brandon Jennings SPA, Tyreke Evens Hot Prospects.... but at least give them a clap for effort for at least making Topps, Topps Chrome, Upper Deck, Bowman 48, Exquisite rookies.

But there'll always be a Chris Paul Topps Chrome rc, Carmelo Bowman Chrome, Dwyane Wade Upper Deck rc, LeBron Exquisite rc, etc.. so maybe maybe all that money saved up from protesting/avoiding Panini can be used for 03/04 products lol.

i just woke up and realized. like it or not, this is what we have for the next few years. Seems like they will be churning out more than a fair share of stuff. we can always rely on the tube and others to preview what we like before buying.

lets just be positive, and go with it, and i am sure like all Jordan shoes, we will fall in love with something sooner or later...

Oh boy, you dont want to open up that can of worms!
Short answer : only Panini can make "NBA" basketball cards, because the NBA signed an exclusive deal with them.

And that is what is SAD... monopoly in sports cards, no competition in a competitive sport!
