Where does it end?
We all know that Tavares is selling really well, yg is still selling for at least $75, BD going for around the same, a BD ruby went for $235, ultra going for $50, mvp going for $30 and even CC going for $15-$20. but here's a few i find a little too much:

cmon $180 for a mvp gold script /100? i could probably get 3/4 of my callahan collection alone for that. ik he's supposed to be really good in a few years and stuff and his rc's are selling similar to crosby's but at least crosby had around 100 points in his rc year, tavares currently has 29 points in 46 games, as much as duchene who while is selling good not nearly as much as tavares.
here's my thing on this i guess: i think his rc's will probably sell for the most right now so people can wait for him to get good and then have all his cards skyrocket in value, but if he's going to sell for the most now that means he won't sell for as much later....and if he does good later that means as he gets better his rc's will sell for less....if my theory is correct of course. i guess his cards selling for this much doesn't really make sense to me. anyone else feel free to comment as i'm probably off about something here...

Precisely why I haven't even tried to trade for his YG. I have a couple of cards I could prob go out and trade for one right now, but I'm just not too sure how much value they will hold. I will not be surprised if in a couple of years those YG's will be selling in the 30 range. Stamkos seems to be in that range now, and I think he's gonna be almost if not as good as tavares.

I think a lot of this boils down to collectors feeling a lot better with regards to spending money. Last year, the economy combined with a weaker rookie crop to result in much lower values for the 08-09 rookies. Things are looking up again, we've seemingly gone through the worst of the storm, and people are more optimistic and opening up on the disposable income again.
Stamkos is doing a lot better now, but it's pretty tough to get significant ^ arrows once an RC's value is established and it's the following season. The demand is greater now but the supply is well in abundance, so there's not going to be significant momentum, much as was for the case with the Chicago White Sox pitcher that tossed a perfect game last year - short-term increase in interest for his cards but not enough to make them jump over the long haul. Tavares was on fire out of the gates and that wave is continuing even if he's not producing at exactly the same pace right now. He's hotter now than Price was back in 07-08, and maybe somebody can fill me in on how well he's doing compared to what Malkin was doing at this stage of the 06-07 season, so we're possibly looking at the strongest rookie cards since the 05-06 season, and that's no small feat. Tavares is the real deal, a player with genuine game-breaking talent, and people are banking on him early.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

I like to call it speculation, and as Rich stated with people having a bit more disposable income, combined. You will find His values be this high, and like the Stock Market, you find people there, buying up a whole lot of something they think will pay off in the long run. However that's the risk some people are willing to take.
For instance, and I will keep this in hockey terminology. He's looking like the next hero, or real deal, but (I'm just being hypothetical here) he possibly could bust, and turn out to be the next Alexandre Daigle. Who knows, but as far as speculators are concerned, they like to make the huge investment in something that seems to be a sure thing. A leap of faith as you will.
This is just human mentality at its best, and the people that are lucky enough to pull YG's, and tough to get RC's are selling, and making the bucks. They win, and if Tavares becomes better than Crosby, Keeps his public profile clean (no Tiger[Cheetah] woods here, or Bernie Nicholls, Theron Fleury, Jason Allison..... etc), and wins some cups, then all the people spending the money to get his cards now will be justified in what they did, and feel it was worth it. hat's the faith they are banking on.Searching for: Jagr, Palffy, Stumpel, and Boyd

I can almost understand the MVP but the Ruby WOW thats a lot for a card not auto'd or memorabilia #'d to /100. Just goes to show all about the right buyer. I just sold a Crosby quad "Base" for about $25 and I still cant believe it!

alright i guess i can see a few points made...the yg i don't get at all though, i didn't look into crosby's sales to know what he went for around the release but i do know that u could have gotten a hobby pack for $4, a retail pack for $3, a blaster for $20, and not too sure on the hobby box but probably no more than $100. now it's $10 a pack, S2 blasters are selling for over $20 so i couldnt imagine what these would go for, and boxes going for $250. someone might be able to confirm this but i heard from someone on here that the # of yg's in 05-06 has increased possibly 2x compared to now. and 09-10 boxes now are $60, can probably go $50 if u can find one on ebay, so why not just get a hobby box or two if these people really have the $ to waste? only 49 yg's, 6 per box thats a decent chance...i guess i'm getting carried away here.
and duchene only sells for about $20, why? he's doing as well as tavares, on a better team, it's not like he's a d-man either who doesnt get any hobby love, he's a center and a damn good one lol. all ik is i might be getting a ud blaster today and if i hit tavares by chance it's going right up FS/FT. there we go i'm done lol

How well they're playing has nothing to do with how much $$$ their cards are going for. Crosby YGs book at double Ovechkin YGs. You could argue that Crosby is the better player, but he's not twice as good.
There is hype around Tavares, that Duchene can't touch. Tavares is playing well enough to justify the hype.... so his card values reflect it.
I'm holding out for a few more releases before I buy one. I would expect his YG to sell for a bit less once SPA, SPX, Trilogy, and Champs all hit the market.
