I'm not sure it was more pure and innocent since the hobby exploded in 1991 and everyone was selling cards. They were alot cheaper though, except Stadium Club.lol

True... that was UD's first year, after all. But even then, set-building seemed to be more of the goal than just trying to get RC's all over the place.

You don't happen to have another one of those Brad Johnson 1000 stripes available, do you? I've been trying to put the Johnson master together for years and only need that one.

Just a side note... the 1993 1000's are BY FAR the HARDEST 1000's to get (So, HTOutlaws, Congrats on your Barry 1993 1000!!). The reason being that the company went out of business shortly after the product was released. Nobody had the opportunity to trade up to the 1000's, leaving ONLY the ones that were seeded into packs as "live".

I do know that when the company went bankrupt, several of the larger stores bought up the stock of stripes that the company held. This included most products from 1991 and 1992, though AFAIK, there were NO/VERY FEW 1993 1000's in the bankruptcy sales.

Wild Card, IMHO, had some of the NICEST photos in the biz and 1993 was my favorite Wild Card set, coincidentally... LOTS of nice cards in there like Marino, Rice, Favre, Emmitt, Elway, Sanders, etc (actually, the other years had these guys too). Some nice RC's included Bledsoe (well, it USED TO BE nice), Brunell (ditto, see Drew), Bettis (LOVE this card... in ND uniform), and Robert Smith (had to include the Vikings... GREAT photo... in OSU uniform).

Cool, huh? I LOVED Wild Card!

I have a question. Now how did the "agent cards" & the Dan Patrick with his wife card, the Ross Perot cards and such make it to the field so to speak? Did those cards come in packs? Or were they show cards?

I used to love 91 Upper Deck Football when it came out. They had great pics as well. I never bought Wild Card back then. If I remember correctly, it was the hot card back then, and I was busy saving for a house.

The 93 Wild Card was one of the last that I purchased. The 1000 Stripe was the very last one. It makes a lot of sense about the 93 Wild Cards. I have only found the one card. Ever.

SGT.Rock. I used to read his comics YEARS ago. Used to love em. I still have a ton of Uncanny X-Men from back then. Never got a #94 though. pretty much 99 and up.

I think card collecting was a bit more simplified. Not as many sets to collect. I did like the fact that I was about "done" after buying a bunch of wax, and putting sets together. Wax buyers today are victims of the trade more than ever before.

I saw a Quincy Carter BGS 9.5 sell on ebay for over $5,000.00 back around year 2000.
I'll bet the guy who won that auction feels like he got a swift kick to the nuts now. I couldn't believe it then, and that auction will live with me forever. Unbelievable.

The Dan Patrick and Wife and Barry and Legends cards were promos that made it to the market. They are not really "1000-stripe" cards... in other words, I don't think you could've exchanged them for anything. There are ONLY those versions.

LOL... Sgt Rock is my all-time favorite comic book character... I have the entire run from Our Army at War #81 through the end of the Sgt Rock Run.

I have a couple of Barry 1000's... the 1991 Collegiate and 1991 NFL. I have lower stripes randomly as I pulled them. NO inserts... I guess I didn't collect him or they were way too pricey.

I'm actually nine cards short of a complete set of 1991 NFL 1000's. Yep, I have 151 of the 160 card set as 1000-stripes.
