That is a nice caveat Kevin but here's what truly sucks about what you said:

Basically, if you read between the lines, you'll see if you buy/pull a redemption of a big time player, it'll likely get made. UD makes the EFFORT with THOSE guys.

What about the people like me who have a team collection and have/had redemptions of someone like Larry Murphy? I value a hard signed Kings auto of Murphy MORE than another friggin' run of the mill slop job, tee time chicken scratch by Ovechkin. Seriously.

Unfortunately UD only caters to the guys they deem important. That right there is one of MANY things that sets ITG apart, they care about ALL players and collectors.

You don't think it is coincidence that Rob Blake had so many amazing cards in Ultimate 9 and has a whole whack of stuff in Superlative II do you?

    But I digress.

I think UD feeds people BS and most continue to consume it unfortunately.

I think there are a lot of redemptions they put in product knowing right off the bat there is a VERY low, or NO chance of the card being made but they take the attitude, "Oh, we'll get them something for it later, it adds "value" for now."

    Weak.

you're basically describing priority and you better believe ITG prioritizes as well. does ITG care about ALL their guys like you state? they may very well do but considering their position, their livelihood depends on it. i wish UD took the same stance.

and i'm only meh... on the ITG part. they make some impressive cards but their designs just never really stood out to me compared to UDs. and also, though i've only had a handful of lundqvist cards to chase from ITG, i don't see them going all out with him. :p (then again, that might be a good thing too)

According to Brian Price there are legal reasons as to why they can't do this but he didn't go into specifics.

it's always bad to pull a redemption card period. the loss of other sport licenses only matters if you think UD is going under. if anything, now that UD doesn't have the other sports to focus on and only hockey, they should have more time to follow up with their outstanding redemptions. unfortunately, UD has also cut alot of staff so who knows how many people they have available to do what now.

it's also important to remember most redemptions aren't because UD is lazy but more because the athletes aren't returning the cards on time. for some multi player auto'ed cards that's understandable though.

Maybe that is the case sometimes but other times UD doesn't pay the athletes so why should they sign. I know that is a reason many athletes refuse to sign for them.

    yeah,
its most likely that UD pays Zetterberg (for example) to sign 1000 cards.
so if Zetterberg has signed those 1000 cards he's done with his business.
but unfortunately there are 500 more cards of him that need to be signed.

he will not sign them before payment and UD sometimes has no money left to give.
and as time goes on Zetterberg needs to sign newer products where UD again pays
to get his signatures, but again not enough for all of the new stuff... so there is of
course no money left to let him sign his older stuff.

i mean... ok, Zetterberg could just sign everything to be kind or whatever, but why
    should he ?

Exactly what I was thinking. Some players just gave up on UD though because of that.

But at least you'll know it's real unlike those "GAME USED" UD nameplates.

Remember the Lundqvist one's (a few years back I think?) were the heat pressed letters from a style jersey that Lundy has never worn? DOH!

It's a joke with UD as far as prioritizing. As soon as I left the Diamond Club no more Blake.

I don't have to be in any club or spend gobs of money with ITG to get Blake cards, Brian just takes care of the true hockey fans and collectors.

Kevin, you know UD could very well be gone soon, so start making nice with ITG because those meh card designs might be all you have to collect outside of Panini. (talk about bad designs!)

I'd be willing to bet that upper deck inserted all kinds of fake memorabilia into their cards over the years. They tried being shady in all other areas, why not be shady where we'd have little to no proof?

Doubt it, think of the lawsuit they would have if that was the case? One person finds out, and UD would be gone. They do a good job with cards for the most part, it is the customer service, the way they handle things, that are catching up to them.
