He had two solid regular seasons in his first two years. The reason he sucked was a combo of two things IMO. He was used too much and he had a baby not long before the playoffs. Combine fatigue plus not a lot of sleep = bad hockey.
Don't even bring up Bryz. He never played more than 31 games before the ducks got rid of him. No one could have predicted he would be the stud that he is today.

If you truly believe Berrnier is as good or better, well, more power to you, and good luck with that.

nice to see this thread get some love - i think we are pretty much agreed on the RFA's. Richardson needs to be re-signed, a couple of guys can go and a couple of guys can be re-signed as long as the salary remains similar.
looks like the goalie situation is getting some attention, so let's go there...
i would see what kind of interest i could get on Quick. he's a young goalie with playoff experience now. he carried the load this year and although he probably shouldn't play 70+ games a year, he could easily play 55-60 w/o a problem.
the Kings could go into next season with the Bernier/Ersberg tandem, but i'd much rather see them go with Bernier/Biron or something like that.
i do think the kings could get someone like Jeff Carter for Quick. the other thing to remember about Quick is that he's signed for a couple more years at less than $2M a season. that is huge for a cash strapped team. i'm not sure if Jeff Carter is a guy i want as he makes a lot of money and he contract is coming up, but i'd be interested in a deal that is similar to that.
I don't think Ersberg will be a King next year. He's out of options I think so I'm pretty sure DL will try to move him for a pick at the draft. He probably won't get anything better than a 5th or so, but I'd take it.
Then I'd go out and sign a quality back up to help Bernier. There are some decent goaltenders out there that are good veterans...Turco, Theodore, C.Mason, Emery, Biron, Hedberg, Lalime, Nittymaki, B.Johnson and more.
So, if I had my preference, I would trade Quick for a scoring winger, move Ersberg for a late round pick and sign Martin Biron to a one-year deal.
Then the Kings go into next year with Bernier as the #1 and Biron there to share the load in case Bernier struggles. We also have Zatkoff and Jones coming in the next couple of years. Bernier's growth will be stunted only playing 20-25 games next year and even worse if he has to play in the minors another year.
Quick struggles with mechanics and Bernier is very fundamentally strong. Go with the kid that you invested the high pick in and bring in a vet to show him the ropes.
Some places I would target trying to move Quick to...
Dallas (could maybe see James Neal coming back)
Philadelphia - Simon Gagne would like nice in Purple
Ottawa - not sure they are settled with either Elliott or Leclaire
Tampa Bay - St.Louis would look nice on the wing in LA
St.Louis - how about Backes or Brad Boyes?
Edmonton - not sure who to target there but they have some young talent.
each of these teams are in the market for a starting goalie and there isn't much on the market as far as starters go. Nabokov will probably re-sign, Turco might get a starting gig but not sure about that, maybe Theodore and Emery but neither was rock solid this year.Last edited by gretzky99; 04-26-2010 at 11:55 PM.

I'd be happy with a 6th or 7th for ersy. he sucks that much
Turco - NO! Only would want him if Quick was with the team so he could teach Quick how to handle the puck
Theodore - nah.
Mason - no
emery - yes
Biron - yes
Hedberg - no
Lalime - heck no
Nitty - no
B. Johnson - signed in pitt.
exactly
Dallas - no. not trading within the division
Philly - YES!
Ottawa - Nothing I'd want back unless it was Volch but he's a UFA so we're not trading a goalie signed to a dirt cheap deal for a UFAs rights
TBL - Don't want anyone from em
St. Louis - only guy I would have wanted from them was Palushaj and hes in MTL now
EDM - nah. Unless we get #1 pick in a nice big deal.[/quote]
Please do. He sucks.

IMO, u guys need a foward instead of a defensemen. U guys have Johnson, Doughty (of course), Scuderi. I need a guy such as Oshie or Elias.

Come on, are you guys serious? Quick sucks, he has no fundamentals, run him out of town, but hey, we can probably get Jeff Carter, David Backes (next Captain for the Blues), Martin St.Louis, James Neal (that one is really laughable), even Simon Gagne is a hoot.
Sure, maybe you get one of those guys for Quick if you're tossing in your first round draft pick this year. I find it hilarious that people talk about how bad their players suck and they need to be run out of town, but we should get back top line talent in return.
If, and that's a big if, they decide to move Quick, they will be probably get back a later round draft pick, or some dead weight contract of a veteran way past his prime that is in the last year of his contract. NHL teams are not dumb, they are not going to give away top talent of high draft picks for a player that is expendable to a franchise that is actively trying to move him. Turco is a great example, proven playoff goaltender that many teams especially Philly and Chicago could have used, and no one was willing to give up upper talent or draft picks for him.

i don't mind trading Quick to Dallas if we could get James Neal. i'd also love to have St.Louis although I think he makes too much. wouldn't mind Ryan Malone either. and i'd be interested in Backes, Boyes or even Oshie from St.Louis. all three of those teams could use Quick in net.
and i would be happy with Chris Mason, Nittymaki or even Hedberg as a backup but I'd rather have Biron. Bernier and Biron are both french canadian which could also be a plus.

Now that I think about it, I think LA should trade Quick to Philly in exchange for someone like Jeff Carter. Philly has enough depth on scoring (Gagne, Richards, etc.). What Philadelphia really needs, is a goaltender.

Hey if it's that easy, maybe the Sabres can trade Enroth for Carter! (Well it's about as wild as your suggestion haha)

i'd only be willing to deal Quick because we have Bernier ready to go. there were only four other goalies with 39 wins this year - we can get a good goal scorer for that. and remember, it's not just about talent, it's also about cap number. a team like Phily that is up against the cap could move Carter and his $5M salary with one year left to get a starting goalie at less than $2M/year. Carter will be RFA after next year and will command a long term deal that Phily might not be able to pay him.
and there is a HUGE difference between Turco and Quick...like 10+ years. there aren't many 25 year old goalies with a 39 win season and playoff experience at less than $2M/year for 2 more years. as a matter of fact, i'd be willing to bet there is exactly one.
not every team has the abundance of talent that the Kings have in their system in net. it's not like the old days where you can just sign anyone you want - it has to fit in your cap and many teams don't have room to bring in a quality goaltender.
