I started picking up Beckett again when I got back into the hobby a few years back. It didn't take long for me to realize time has sort of passed the magazine by. I can get articles on the internet, and frankly I find their pricing ludicrous enough to pay next to no attention to it.

I just have a quick question: since there are more and more people who say that beckett pricing shouldnt be payed attention to, how can I price my cards making sure I am not getting ripped off? I am new here and just getting back to hockey cards which i stopped at the age of about 11, when i still didnt know that much about it, so im basically just getting properly into the whole thing now, so sorry if this is a silly question, but some help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

Frankly you can pay attention to whatever you feel is best. Although I don't follow Beckett much anymore; I have used it occasionally. A lot of people go look up completed listings on eBay and get an average price based on what cards have been selling for.

Overall though; the best deal is the one you think is best, and what makes you happy. Obviously trading Crosby, Orr, Ovechkin, etc for peanuts is something you won't want to do; it's something you'd know not to do anyways. Kind of common sense.

If two people have a card that the other likes. Let's say two autograph cards. A Zach Parise auto, and a Ales Hemsky auto (for example). The way I look at it is if they're both going to someone's PC...what's not to be happy about? Sometimes people get TOO caught up in value and can never make a deal.

    Everyone get's something they like. It's win-win.

My Beckett subscription recently expired and I don't plan on renewing. The magazine has gone downhill and their values seem to be off-base. I mean honestly if I could sell all my cards at high bv, I would you almost never see cards sell for those values. Also
if there's a card I really want, I don't care what it books at. I'd take a rare Bishop card over any of my traders...

I used to look forward to that magazine every couple months as well, but now I only buy them when I'm going to a show and need a reference.

I still have my subscription and I'll keep it coming. I have a copy of every issue since #1.

Sure, Becketts gone in the toilet; but you show me any magazine that hasn't within the past 3 years. I no longer read Maxim because they became so, well, self-absorbed with their own image, for the lack of a better term. But I don't have a copy of every issue. I used to read Lowriders. Gave that up, too. Way too much sizzle and not enough meat, per say.

Beckett went down hill fast when they decided to focus more on the OPG than the magazine. It seems that a lot of collectors subscribe to that. More power to them, it's just not for me. I prefer to have a magazine in my hands.

If you're looking for articles, there are two hobby magazines which are both superior to Beckett right now. "The Want List" which is pretty good, and "Insider's Edge which in my opinion is the best hobby publication available right now, and is even better than Beckett used to be when it was great, in my opinion.

    beckett

its time we all learned that beckett should be flushed down the toilet.pricing makes no sense, errors upon errors.no values for cards, cards numbered to 25 to scarce to price and cards numbered to 15 priced.where in the name of the lord do they find their pricing.
like someone here said, its all common sense.lets use it.
