LOL! I guess the Kings and DL must have lowballed the Flyers....

Or The Kings are a terrible landing spot now that they couldn't get Kovy, Gagne didn't want to waive his NTC to go there....

Ouch....I feel it for Kings fans.

for what Kovalchuk is getting, i'm 100% excited that he's going to NJ. Kovalchuk got exactly what he wanted. Big money and playing golf in April. good for him, bad for NJ, good for Kings.

Don't hate the player, hate the cap system....it obviously tied DL's hands.

I think the Kings will be playing golf before the Devils....

    Good luck to ya

let's see - NJ won one playoff game with Kovalchuk, Kings won two playoff games w/o Kovalchuk. Devils still need to dump at least 2-3 players to fit in Kovalchuk's contract.

i'll take the Kings both for 2010-11 and beyond - no question about it.

I'll agree with the Kings' fan perspective on this - it's always nice to have a good name on the marquee to help sell tickets, but Kovalchuk's contract demands were outlandish and would have crippled the Kings' ability to re-sign all their great young talent to new deals in the near future. I'd rather have their upward momentum and be able to sustain it than the situation that the Devils will now face. Sure they've got their "face of the franchise" for after Brodeur's retirement, but that deal will handcuff the organization.

Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

But if the reports are true on the Kovy deal..... 102 million over 17 years - that only represents a million per season cap hit. Not exactly a hard pill to swollow for a player of that calibre.

And the Gagne move, yes.... the Flyers didn't get much in return, but they didn't want much. They get a 4th, and minor league dman (well, I've never heard of him - so I assume he's going to the minors). But remember they also signed Zherdev, and that made moving Gagne necessary. The net result is still 1.5 million in cap savings (Simon's 5.5 out, Nikolai @ 4.0). Gagne has been a good player for a lot of years there...... but obviously Holmgren felt that Zheredev + 1.5 in cap space was more valuable.

i'm more bummed about the Gagne trade than the Kovalchuk deal. Gagne would have been a nice player to add for one year, even at that bad cap hit. evidently, DL has something better up his sleeve.

Zherdev is only getting 2 mil for this year. The Flyers were over the cap already. Trading for Mezaros and signing Shelly to a 3.3 million deal put us over. I just hope they dont waste the cap space on someone like Turco.
