He didnt miss them..if Cabrera's career ended today, he'd never be in the hall, and Verlander will never get in the hall..

If Cabrera has a long lasting career, no doubt he'll have the numbers and be a first ballot guy, but right now he's to young

The fact that Larkin only played an average of 110 games a season might be a big reason all his statistics involving %s are higher than Cal's. Of course you can make the exact same counter argument saying all his totals would be much higher. I don't know, it is unfortunate he missed so many games, but I can't see a guy who doesn't have any big milestone numbers and only played in ~68% of his teams games in the HOF.

400 HR and 3,000 hits go a long way. Only 8 guys in history have those numbers, Cal being one. The Iron Man record alone gets him in if he hit .250 for his career. Larkin doesn't have any of the big milestones or records.

I guess if Andre Dawson is in the HOF Larkin should be, too. It seems 1 MVP award and an otherwise solid, but normal career is all you need.

Without the large amount of missed games I'd say Larkin should be in.

I like these types of baseball discussions because I get to learn about other players and hear the opinions of other fans.

though violence is never acceptable, people do lose their heads, and men full of testosterone, will fight. this is often done out of reaction and not out of disrespect.

unlike loosing your head, spitting on someone takes thought and demeaner.

both are bad, but men have been fighting for 1000's of years for many reasons, people only spit on someone when they have no respect for others and think they are above you.

alomar was a great player and will get into the HOF, but i would not collect him and he will never have my respect, just like cobb and a few others.

Larkin should be in:

Barry Larkin vs. Cal Ripken – While Ripken has more than double the HRs of Larkin (431 to 198), Larkin actually has a higher OPS+ (116 vs. 112) , BA (.295 vs. .276), OBP (.371 vs. .340), and almost the same SLG (.444 vs. .447). Factor in Larkin’s superior speed and you’ve got a pretty good case that Larkin was a better player than Ripken. Ripken’s big advantage? Durability. Larkin only played 150+ games in 4 of his 19 seasons. So Larkin might have been better when healthy but Ripken was more valuable overall

I dont think so bud, Larkin in no way shape or form stacks up to Cal Ripken!! Were not talkin the hall of average here... In Ripkens era 500 HR was a lock for the hall of fame, not only was he only 65-70 away, but he set other records that will never be broken!! Larkin wasnt even half way to 500 HR, nor does he have any records that wont be broken!! (that i know of anyways) And one more final word; In 21 seasons Ripken has 3184 hits, another stepping stone to the HOF (over 3k hits)... Larkin in a close 19 seasons has a mere 2340 hits!! So in the 2 most important stats, Larkin is no where close to Ripken!!

Why is Jeff Kent even mentioned for HOF? I'm curious why he has been mentioned a few times.

I know he won an MVP, but so did Mo Vaughn, Juan Gonzalez, Miguel Tejada, and other guys who don't sniff the hall.

Neither of those guys have HOF credentials. I could see if Miggy keot going how he did, but thats the key. Andruw Jones anybody?

Once again, Vlad yes and Pedro yes, but Mauers like.. 27. Cmon now. Hes got nasty stats but if he retired today, he wouldnt get in. I mean being a catcher is tough. One injusry can destroy a career. Unlike Vlad whos been around long enough that his stats stick (a .327 BA is nice for Mauer, but Vlad's .320 is nicer through like 12 years).
