Idea - to deter or stop patch forging!
I am contemplating running this by Upper Deck! Looking for opinions.
I am guessing that Upper Deck print the card front and back and then put the card together with the patch inside. If this is actually how its done, why cant they take a photograph of the patch intended for that card and print the photo on the back of the card. Maybe, in the bottom corner, or right in the middle with stats written overtop of it. this way, you just have to turn the card over to verify the patch is the same as the photo on the back. Patch forgers would have to print a whole new backing for the card as well as switch the patch which would be nearly impossible. Seems to me to be a fairly simple fix for the card company. and would save us all from buying fake patches!
what do you think?

they use printing plates and that would mean they would have to make a different plate for each and every card since each patch is different...very expensive process unfortunately

Good point. what about a certificate with the card that shows the patch.

that would again require them to print an additonal card for the card....donruss offers an authentication program where they scan the front and back of higher end patch cards and you can view the cards on their website by using the authentication number ...probably one of the most cost effictive ways to do something like youre asking

I think any option is time consuming and costs money, imagine how many cards they would need to that for, impossible.

This is a pretty good idea, but like others have said, it would be time consuming, extra money, and i just think that ud would be scrambling all over the place to get the cards completed.
I think as long as they can somehow conceal the patch/jersey with some type of plastic or glass, like ud does with ice, then it will be a more time saving and convienent idea IMO.

An online accessible patch library of all official patches wouldn't be so hard would it? That way collectors could verify the actual card and patch online to make sure it's real.

It's good that this is an agenda item that comes up fairly regularly - a few months ago I had a suggestion: https://www.sportscardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1131258 and it resulted in a pretty good discussion.
At some point I think that something will get done, whether it's encapsulating the swatch material under acetate, the grid suggestion, or some other tamper-proof way to ensure that when we purchase a memorabilia card it is 100% guaranteed authentic.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

That has been brought up. Although it doesn't seem like such a bad idea, this would also be extremely time consuming. Ud has thousands and thousands of cards produced every year. Imagine taking a picture of every jersey/patch cards? That would be tiring.
Not a bad idea though :)
I believe Gomaz on here has something similar to what you were suggesting. Someone plz correct me if I'm wrong.
Cheers!

Panini already has the best idea in place. It is expensive but at least we can all rest easy.
I mean why would UD shell out the extra money to give their customers piece of mind?
