    A would-you-rather for Player Collectors

    Hey all:

I wanted to get some other player collectors' opinions on this question I've been mulling over myself lately. I'm more active in basketball and received some good thoughts there, and I wanted to spread it out to other sports (might get enough good stuff for an article for the SCF magazine, too, who knows ...)

Which of these would you rather achieve:

    - The entire rainbow, plus printing plates, signed printing plates, other 1/1s, everything of your player from a particular set.

    OR

    - The entire print run of a particular card, say to /25 or to /50, of your player?

Let me know which, and why. Just curious and looking for your take. Thanks!

    -Matt

i would rather have all of the 1/1 and what not, although having a complete print run numbered to 25 would be cool, I like to have different cards in my collection and I would feel like I have the same card 25 times, although it would make for excellent trade bait, lol

Well, I find this an easy question to answer.

    - The entire rainbow, plus printing plates, signed printing plates, other 1/1s, everything of your player from a particular set.

    Bungle and CNS:
Why the rainbow over the full print run? I go back and forth on this. The Rainbow will look awesome all together. But the full print run of something, even to /25, is nearly impossible and would be mighty impressive.

Well, I must admit that an entire print run would be an awesome thing to own...especially if it was numbered to 50!!

Also, I would choose the print run if the rainbow option was for MVP or Fleer or some low end set. But since it was for any set of my choosing (imagination runs wild), I'd for sure take a rainbow from a higher end set. Like The Cup (imagine all those 1/1 cards), or Ultimate.

I hope that made sense...I sometimes have trouble putting thoughts into words.

because I want a full PC meaning every card possible. If I can get say all 25 cards /25 then that'd be awesome but i'd MUCH rather focus my efforts on cards I don't have rather than just keep picking up cards I have multiple copies of

That's what I should have said. I tend to complicate things.

For sure the Rainbow. I like the variety (and the accomplishment of the variety) much more than the hoarding aspect of the single card.

That being said..... I'll still keep trying for both :)

Bungle: Don't worry, you made sense! Both times!
I would take just about any rainbow. I'm making progress toward a few big ones with plates (I am six 1/1s away from one, which I think is my closest ...), and I have one that only has one 1/1 in it. But, for Chris Douglas-Roberts (NBA), I do have every card of the two Fleer-named releases his rookie year (Fleer and Hot Prospects). I'd love to hit the rainbow from Topps Chrome or Bowman/Bowman Chrome though. Maaaaaaaaaanny 1/1s.

CNS: I agree with you on the full PC for every card possible. I'm the same way. But if there's a lull in what I need, and I see a nice, low-numbered patch or auto that I already have, I go for it. And that's how I started going for as many of the print run as I can on two particular cards. And I agree with you about focusing on what you don't have. But sometimes ya need a distraction when there's just not much showing up.

Ranfordfan: How close are you to any rainbows? And, without tipping your hand, what's the closest you are to a whole print run? I have five of a /15 and I think 13 or 14 of a /50.
