J.S. Giguere a Maple Leaf

Without a pick or prospect, I don't see why the Leafs would do this trade with Gustavsson being our number one.

Blake: $3million per year until 2012 (currently $4.5million in 09-10)
Toskala: UFA after 09-10
Giguere: $7million in 2010-11

Any thoughts?

It's still a good deal. If Giguere tanks, it's only for one more year, and then gone. You never know too, because next year is his contract year. We'd have to assume that JS will play for a contract next year. Still an upside for Toronto here, plus you take out 2 diseased players.

The Ducks are also doing the Leafs a favour as Giguere could get them out of the bottom 2. So don't the favours cancel each other out

i guess if you subscribe to the theory that TO should play not to lose this year instead of improve in the coming years...
