Really bugging me...
So how do people trades these days?
SV? EBay? BV?
I noticed a lot more ppl trading by BV....bc why? economy is so bad you gotta get every dollar back?
Some people use the BV system to their advantage way too much here....its annoying. what happened to fair trading? even sell values too?
also it seems a lot are trading just go to sell on ebay....or please let me buy this cheap, so i can go on ebay and make more...then why the hell are you in the hobby then?
stupid ebay has really killed this hobby, all these stupid sell values and all of a sudden, traders wanna be like, oh i want this i want that...
some guy wants a card from me and is like, oh it only books this much or only sells for this much, so why bother asking me then.
economy is tight, money may be tight but we are not trading gold here. i work in a bank and everyday i see gold being traded dollar for dollar but thats GOLD, not cards, I have seen easier deals in the bank than here...what gives?Last edited by garnett_21; 02-03-2010 at 02:31 PM.

I think everyone wants to get the most bang for their buck. Cards are not gold, but they still cost money and are worth something. I think trading in the other person's favor is not a big deal now and then, especially if you really like the other person's card/cards. Of course not everyone can afford to be nice because after all card collecting does cost a lot of money.
I like to trade by BV because about 80% of the time it's a reasonable guide for how much something is worth. I'm okay with using SV too, because that covers the other 20% of the time (such as Jordan inserts, etc.).
It's easier to trade with gold because there is a set value, you are getting in cash what your item is worth. Card values are much more variable and because everyone is trying to rip everyone else (or make steals) off, it makes trading harder.
I am happy as long as the trade involve two cards that are of similar range value (1-10, 10-20, 90-110 etc. etc.)and both sides are happy.

Oh one more thing, ebay does hurt the hobby a little bit because it is so easy to "steal" something on there. Because of that, it has given a lot of collectors the "steal" mindset. So even when dealing on communities and boards such as this one, they are still carrying their ebay "steal" mindset to here where the mindset needs to be "fair trade" and "giving to others".
I must admit, I get caught up in the ebay mindset sometimes too.

and stupid beckett with overpricing cards, i think because they are such buddy buddy with panini sandwiches, they are giving panini such a head start with BV so now people are BV'ing it up on their omg so hard to get brandon jennings which is why i sold all my rc's from that set for 25 cents each to ruin the hobby my way, selling it for cheap so thats what ppl expect and when morons start to ask i want 25 in bv for my jennings, they can go shove it in their behinds.
have you guys seen the crap in beckett....the bv stuff on panini prestige...i enjoy collecting Toney D but hell no will i pay BV of 30 something for his manufactured auto..Last edited by garnett_21; 02-03-2010 at 02:32 PM.

See my sig. Beckett and eBay are nice guides, but ultimately, this is all that matters.

I am in the group where I see ebay selling for $8 for certain card. And I will try to ask for $7 here. However, I am not trying to make money, more like if that is a "fair" deal for each of us. I may end up no offer with $7, but just suck up $8 in ebay..lol
And some people just asking way too low for certain card. BV like $200, I have see people ask for $30~$40 range. Maybe they should just buy many lots and resell individually, not "stealing" a deal from a person and resell single card.

It can be difficult. Most of the people here are good traders. I have gone by BV in the past because that is the easiest way and that is what most other people do. I have been burned by doing that a couple times though.
SV is probably fairer but that is harder to ascertain. Beckett's values are usually well over the actual sell value (2-4XSV) and out of date. As long as total BV/SV is similar I am usually agreeable. I have traded down many times(maybe too many) and of course, everyone is trying to get the best deal they can but sometimes the requests are a little ridiculous - e.g. people who ask for a $100 card for a bunch of $10 cards. As long as people are reasonable and respectful there isn't usually a problem.Last edited by wrafman; 02-03-2010 at 10:21 AM.

Great thread Adrian.
i trade with both SV and BV. but im not going to trade a card that books for $40 for another card that books for $40 but sells for $4 when the card im trading sells for 30 etc. thats just stupid. but i know what you mean.
sure, we are all looking for "steals" but you cant go on a site and think you will get steals all the time.
anyways, i hope you guys understand what im trying to say lol..
Cheers

Basically, I go with sell value. Unless it is gu for gu or PC. As long as the sell values are within 5 bucks of each other I am fine
