drtom - good advice. I had a similar experience last year. I have traded down several times but when I mentioned that I might not trade down as much as the other person wanted the other person became offended and condescending so I put him on the ignore list.

As SanJoseFuji says this is a hobby and should bring us pleasure and relaxation, not stress. That is one reason I have traded less (too many hassles with SV/BV and other matters). It is easier just to buy but I have tried to curtail my spending. Usuallly, when possible, I would rather trade a card I do not need or want for one I do.

I do not buy for investment(while you might make money on a card or two in the long run, after paypal, ebay fees, etc.. most people lose). I do this for enjoyment(basketball is my favorite sport) and nostalgia(as another collector mentioned in a different thread).

    - by the way kornbreadchild I hope the reason they just banned you is not for that last comment(I know you are frustrated but it seems a little excessive).

worst is people hiding behind their "PCs". They will PM asking for a card they say is PC. Then I ask for a card I really need in return and they tell me the card books for 110. I go to look it up and it books for 12, they say someone offered them 80 on here.

I told them take that offer and go buy 12 of the same cards on ebay.

I Dont' trade by beckett values, or ebay values or whatever. I like making trades that satisfy both parties. Watever happened to that?? I was trying to make a trade for some very lowend inserts for my set, and he was interested in a nice card of mine. I said that was a cool deal, but then started spouting off about BVs and whatever, and that he wanted 2 more nice cards of mine. ™™™?? They're low-end inserts compared to my nice cards! BV don't mean jack in that situation!!

Hey why was Kornbread banned?? He was just stating his opinion...

My experience is nobody wants to trade with me unless I am giving my stuff away, virtually. I am one of those traders that will go out of my way to help out another team collector or KG collector, given that those two collections (my team and KG) are my passions and I can appreciate that passion in another person. I'll often trade down in this process, I have been known to trade GU for base I needed.

The moment I indicate I want a fair deal on rarer cards, people just get narky with me and quote sell value sell value etc. I say no thanks... because I know what I paid for some of the cards, and I know that I want a fair trade in return or the same amount of cash back (which often means waiting for the right person to come along) and am often quite happy to keep those cards in my PC.

Then when I try to trade for PC cards, I half the time end up paying over the odds, because I can honestly say I've probably only dealt with 3 or 4 traders in my time that are in the hobby for the hobby. That's my choice to pay over the odds, but man sometimes I wish people would treat this more like a hobby so everyone would go away from a trade deal satisfied afterwards.

The Satisfaction Meter is how I now go about trading, unless I am satisfied, I don't do it. I used to do iffy trades that I just knew I wouldn't be happy with later, not anymore. I'm also happy to spend plenty of time working out a deal until BOTH parties register high on the satisfaction meter.

Sorry for the ramble, it may be disjointed in places.
